Crystal Palace vs Watford Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Crystal Palace face Watford at Selhurst Park on 12/12/17 in an important London derby for both sides. Crystal Palace drew 2-2 with Bournemouth at the weekend, while Watford slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to Burnley. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Palace look a far more stubborn, organised and resilient team under Roy Hodgson, with it appearing to be a matter of time before they start to put a run of wins together. As Watford, they have dipped of late and I’m expecting Palace to get the win this Tuesday.

Crystal Palace Preview

It was a case of what could have been for Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, as the Eagles were held to a 2-2 draw a home to Bournemouth. Jermain Defoe had by far his best day in a Cherries shirt since returning in the summer, opening the scoring after 10 minutes, but Palace’s response was strong with Luka Milivojevic and Scott Dann scoring to seemingly put the hosts ahead going into half-time. However, Defoe scored in the third minute of stoppage time to level the game once more, with the game’s pivotal moment coming in the third minute of second-half stoppage time. Palace won a penalty in the final minute, this time being taken by Christian Benteke who saw his tame effort saved by Asmir Begovic. Roy Hodgson was left seething with the Belgian, who went against team orders to take the penalty, with Milivojevic the man instructed to take the penalty. On a more positive note, Palace are unbeaten in their previous five Premier League games, the first time they have achieved such a run since September 2016, though four of those games have been draws. Hodgson has, if nothing else, added a new level of resiliency to this team but they will need to start turning these draws into wins sooner than later.

Crystal Palace Team News

Joel Ward (groin) and Chung-Yong Lee (hamstring) will both be assessed here, but Mamadou Sakho, Damien Delaney and Connor Wickham are all ruled out.

Watford Preview

Watford, along with Burnley, have been the surprise packages in the Premier League this season and both were to test each other at the weekend, with the latter coming out 1-0 winners at Turf Moor. Sean Dyche’s men were certainly helped by the fact Watford were reduced to 10 men five minutes before half-time when full-back Marvin Zeegelaar was shown a straight red card. Burnley wasted little time in taking full advantage of that fact, with Scott Arfield scoring just before the break as Watford made it three games without a win in the Premier League. It is the joint-longest winless streak Marco Silva has suffered during his time with the Hornets, who have endured something of a slump over the previous month or so, winning just two of their last eight league games. It has resulted in them slipping to 9th in the table, now six point adrift of Burnley in 7th but will hope to have more success in what they will view as more winnable fixtures. Watford’s next five fixtures sees them face Palace, Huddersfield, Brighton, Leicester and Swansea to round off 2017 and they will be looking to break back into the top 7 over that period.

Watford Team News

Craig Cathcart, Nathaniel Chalobah (both knee), Younes Kaboul and Will Hughes (both hamstring) are all set to miss out. Miguel Britos (leg), Kiko (muscle) and Stefano Okaka (calf) are doubts, while Marvin Zeegelaar is suspended.
