Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Crystal Palace host Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park on 26/04/17 as the away side look to keep applying pressure to the shoulders of Chelsea. Spurs will need to pick themselves up from the floor after they lost in the FA Cup semi-final, with Chelsea securing a 4-2 win at Wembley. Crystal Palace will be at the opposite end of the confidence spectrum after claiming a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Tottenham will have felt bitterly disappointed by the way they lost at Wembley on Saturday but must quickly turn their attentions to another important game in the title race. Palace will make it tough for Spurs, as they have done for all of the big sides they have faced in recent weeks, but I’m expecting to see an away win in this one.

Crystal Palace Preview

Crystal Palace proved to be Liverpool’s bogey team at Anfield once again last time out, coming from behind to beat the Reds 2-1. Jurgen Klopp’s side took the lead after 24 minutes, as Philippe Coutinho bent a tremendous free-kick over the Palace wall and out of Wayne Hennessey’s reach to give his team something to build on. However, Yohan Cabaye’s low cross was turned in by former Red Christian Benteke who silenced the Kop in doing so. Then, in the second half with fifteen minutes to go, Jason Puncheon’s corner was met by a completely free Benteke who had problem converting when the chance came his way. The result lifted Palace to the dizzy heights of 12th in the Premier League table, putting the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to seven points, while they also have a game in hand on those currently in the bottom three. It may not have been an instant turnaround under Sam Allardyce, but the Eagles are now reaping the rewards of the intensive training ground work the 62-year-old is renowned for. Palace’s last three victories have come against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, so the prospect of facing Tottenham is unlikely to be a particularly daunting one for them at present. To win at Anfield without Mamadou Sakho was also extremely impressive, with Palace now just one win away from reaching 40 points.

Tottenham Preview

Spurs’ winning run came to an end at the hands of Chelsea on Saturday, as the club lost their seventh successive FA Cup semi-final. Willian’s early free-kick was cancelled out by Harry Kane’s delicate header, but the Brazilian netted from the penalty just before half-time to give Chelsea a 2-1 lead at the break. Christian Eriksen’s magnificent cross was turned in by Dele Alli, but Eden Hazard drove the ball in low from the edge of the box as Chelsea took the lead for the third time. Time remained for a jaw-dropping strike from Nemanja Matic, as Mauricio Pochettino’s wait for a trophy goes on. Should Spurs turn the title race around, the pain of this defeat won’t be so profound, and it will be interesting to see what sort of reaction they can produce to such a disappointing result here. Tottenham had won eight games on the bounce in all competitions prior to their defeat at Wembley and have still won their last seven in a row in the Premier League. As well as this, Spurs have lost just one of their last seventeen Premier League games and have won in the past three league meetings between the two clubs. With Chelsea playing on Tuesday, they will already know by kick off whether they have the chance to close the gap to a single point or to keep it at four points as it currently is.
