Crystal Palace vs Swansea City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Crystal Palace host Swansea City at Selhurst Park on 26/08/17 in a meeting of two sides who are still looking to register their first win - and goal - of the season. Palace fell to a 1-0 defeat away to Liverpool last weekend and Swansea were also on the end of a defeat, going down 4-0 at home to Manchester United. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It’s been a testing start for both of these sides, who look as if they could be in for a difficult season in the bottom half of the table. With neither performing at a particularly promising level thus far, I can see both teams cancelling each other out and opening up in an attacking sense, ultimately ending as a draw.

Crystal Palace Preview

Victory may not have been expected at Anfield by Crystal Palace last time out, but the nature of the goal which won Liverpool the match 1-0 will have left Frank de Boer feeling it just wasn’t his team’s day. Dominic Solanke’s touch was diverted by Luka Milivojevic into the path of Sadio Mane, who in turn poked the ball past Wayne Hennessey in front of the Kop. Before Mane’s opener, Christian Benteke missed a huge chance for the Eagles after blazing over the bar following excellent work from Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who found the Belgian square in front of the goal, but unable to convert. Still adapting to a new 3-4-2-1 formation, Palace are still waiting to score their first goal of the de Boer era and they will hope to be more effective than they were against Huddersfield in their previous home outing. David Wagner’s side perfectly exposed the Eagles’ three-man defence, with the pacy Steve Mounie causing problems at the back. Another quick forward, Tammy Abraham, will lineup against the defence this weekend and lessons will have to be learned if they are to get  a result this time around.

Crystal Palace Team News

Wilfried Zaha (knee) is ruled out and will be a huge miss for the hosts. Connor Wickham (cruciate ligament) and Bakary Sako (calf) are still working their way back from injury.

Swansea City Preview

For 80 minutes, Swansea City were somewhat able to restrict Manchester United last time out, as only Eric Bailly’s tap-in seperated the two sides with ten minutes to play at the Liberty Stadium. Then, as Jose Mourinho described as letting ‘the horses run freely’, United were rampant were late on, first scoring through Romelu Lukaku, who produced a confident finish past Lukasz Fabianski. Paul Pogba then delicately chipped the Swans’ keeper to make it 3-0, before Anthony Martial - for the second week running - came from the bench to add United’s fourth. Given the Swans’ opening two fixtures, first facing Southampton away before United at home, one point from a possible six is perhaps par for the course but they will be keen to end their goalscoring drought sooner than later. Having Fernando Llorente back fit and available would give them a huge boost in doing so, with Swans fans excited by the prospect of he and Tammy Abraham leading the line. Unbeaten in their last three away from home in the Premier League, Swansea will fancy their chances of getting another result here.

Swansea City Team News

Fernando Llorente will hope to be included in the squad following his broken arm injury. Leon Britton (back) is a doubt, while winger Nathan Dyer (achilles) is ruled out.
