Crystal Palace vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Crystal Palace host Hull City at Selhurst Park on 13/05/17 in a potentially defining contest for both team’s seasons. Palace were thrashed 5-0 at Manchester City last weekend to leave them in a precarious position coming into this weekend. Hull, too, were on the receiving end of a defeat, losing 2-0 at home to Sunderland to let Swansea slide out of the bottom three. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is the equivalent to a cup final for both sides, who desperately need victories to keep their hopes alive. Palace missed the chance to go safe against Burnley some weeks ago and I’m not expecting Sam Allardyce to allow his side to do so again. Hull have struggled away from home all season and I’m not expecting that to change this weekend. Palace win.

Crystal Palace Preview

On days such as last Saturday, this Manchester City side can be near-impossible to live with and this was the case for Crystal Palace, who were given a hiding by Pep Guardiola’s team, losing 5-0 at the Etihad. David Silva opened the scoring for City inside two minutes of play, but their second wasn’t to come until the second half when Vincent Kompany lashed the ball past Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne then slotted past Wayne Hennessey to make it 3-0 before Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi added efforts in the final ten minutes to wrap up an excellent afternoon’s work. After going on a run of one defeat in eight, also winning six and drawing one in that time, Sam Allardyce’s side have now lost three on the bounce and may well come to seriously regret their 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley. Had they beaten Sean Dyche’s side at home, Palace would now be clear of relegation but now know a defeat this weekend would see them in an extremely tough position coming into the weekend. The Eagles travel to Manchester United on the final day of the season and would rather be safe in the knowledge of knowing they don’t need to get a result there, by picking up the point/s which would guarantee survival.

Crystal Palace Team News

Palace’s lengthy injury list sees Scott Dann, Mamadou Sakho (both knee), Pape Souare (broken leg) and Connor Wickham (ACL) all ruled out until the end of the season. Joel Ward (broken nose), James Tomkins (knee), Yohan Cabaye (knock) and Andros Townsend (achilles) are all doubtful.

Hull City Preview

Should Marco Silva take Hull City down this season, last weekend’s defeat to already relegated Sunderland will be the game they point to as being the crucial game which left them with a mountain to climb. The Tigers appeared to be one of the weekend’s home bankers, facing a side who went down with a whimper and have nothing to play for in the closing weeks in the campaign. Both Sunderland goals came in the second half, first through Billy Jones netting from a corner before Jermain Defoe - who was offside in doing so - put the game to bed in stoppage time. Incredibly, this was Silva’s first home defeat as Hull boss in all competitions, ending a ten-match streak without losing at the worst time of the season. Swansea beat Everton 1-0 later in the evening, and they now trail the Swans by a single point in the table. Paul Clement’s side face Sunderland this weekend prior to this huge meeting, and another win for the Welsh outfit would see Hull left in a do-or-die scenario on Sunday. Still without an away win since the second day of the Premier League season, there would be no better time for the Tigers to end their duck than this weekend, much like Burnley did at Selhurst Park a few weeks prior.
