Crystal Palace vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Crystal Palace host Huddersfield Town at Selhurst Park on 12/08/17 as the away side make their Premier League debut. The home fans will have their first look at a Frank de Boer Palace team, while David Wagner’s men begin what many believe to be an uphill challenge to remain in the top flight. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Crystal Palace will look at this fixture as one which they should be taking maximum points from and will be disappointed with anything less. Huddersfield meanwhile would likely take a point from the game, but I’m expecting the home side to make a positive start to the new campaign by picking up three points.

Crystal Palace Preview

Frank de Boer comes to Crystal Palace with a real point to prove after an unsuccessful stint at Inter Milan - finally coming to manage in England after being touted to join a number of clubs in previous years. It may take some time for the squad to adapt to what is likely to be a stark transition from Sam Allardyce’s brand of football to the Ajax roots of de Boer’s footballing education. With a front three of Andros Townsend, Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke, they will always be a threat going forward, the real question about this team is how well they can defend as a unit, particularly with Mamadou Sakho returning to Liverpool. The Eagles were one of the most unpredictable teams in the Premier League, with highs featuring wins away to Chelsea and Liverpool, to lows such as being 4-0 down to Sunderland at half-time in front of a disgusted Selhurst Park and much of the same erratic performances can be expected again.

Crystal Palace Team News

Pape Souare (broken leg) and Connor Wickham (cruciate ligament) are both ruled out with injuries sustained last summer.

Huddersfield Town Preview

Heading into the unknown, there is little pressure on Huddersfield Town to really perform this season after being priced by most bookies as the favourites to be relegated this season. The charismatic David Wagner, though, will ignore the doubters regardless of how most perceive the chances his squad have of staying up this season, after finding their way up through the playoffs. The club have wasted little time in strengthening their squad for the season, bringing in a number of new faces to give themselves the best chance of staying up. Huddersfield last played in the top flight back on April 29, 1972 and, rather fittingly, it was Crystal Palace who they faced that day at Selhurst Park in a 0-0 draw. A similar result this time around would probably suffice for the visitors, as they look to settle into life in the Premier League in a positive manner.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Martin Crainie (hip), Jonathan Hogg (ankle) and Jon Gorenc-Stankovic (cruciate ligament) are missing for the away side through injury. Nahki Wells (ankle) is doubtful.
