Crystal Palace vs Burnley Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Crystal Palace host Burnley at Selhurst Park on 13/01/18 after both teams were eliminated from the FA Cup last time out. Crystal Palace lost 2-1 at Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday evening, while Burnley fell to a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite not winning of late away from home, Burnley have managed three successive league draws on the road. Palace meanwhile have also suffered something of a drop off in form of late and I’m expecting this to be a draw.

Draw - 11/5

Crystal Palace Preview

A much-changed Crystal Palace side were dumped out of the FA Cup on Monday night, as rivals Brighton and Hove Albion secured a late 2-1 win to progress to the fourth round of the competition. Palace fell behind in the 25th minute when midfielder Dale Stephens fired in the opener, though they were level midway through the second half when Bakary Sako’s strike went in off the post. However, with just three minutes remaining, Glenn Murray brushed the ball home via his thigh from close range to seal an away tie against Championship side Middlesbrough in the next round. As for Palace, their attentions are now turned solely to retaining their Premier League status for next season, currently finding themselves sat 14th in the table, two points clear of the relegation zone. After a difficult spell of games against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester CIty, Palace will now look to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for just the second time this season after winning 2-1 away at Southampton. Both Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke were rested for the FA Cup tie at the Amex Stadium, highlighting Hodgson’s preference for points over prizes this season, making it clear their main priority is survival.

Crystal Palace Team News

Mamadou Sakho (calf), Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon (cruciate ligament) are all ruled out here. Joel Ward (groin) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (knock) will be assessed.

Burnley Preview

Burnley gave it a go just as they always do under Sean Dyche, but like so many that have come before them this season, found themselves short after losing 4-1 to Manchester CIty in the FA Cup. An extended cup run looked unlikely from the moment the draw was made, but hopes of an upset were formed when Ashley Barnes put the Clarets ahead at the Etihad Stadium. Half-time proved to be a wake-up call for City though, who went ahead in the second half after two goals in two minutes from Sergio Aguero, before Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva struck to wrap up what proved to be a comfortable victory for the Premier League leaders. The result now means Burnley have failed to win in any of their last six games, though it has been one of the toughest runs they have faced so far this season, coming up against the likes of Tottenham, Man United, Liverpool and Man City. It doesn’t get much easier for Dyche’s side, who still have to face both Manchester sides in two of their next four games, both of which will be played at Turf Moor. Still 7th in the table, Burnley’s hopes of achieving European football could become a reality this season, should top-six sides win both the EFL and FA Cup, which would see a Europa League place go to the team finishing 7th.

Burnley Team News

Robbie Brady (knee) and Scott Arfield (hamstring) are both ruled out. Tom Heaton (shoulder), Stephen Ward (knee) and Chris Wood (leg) will be assessed.
