Croatia vs Finland Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Croatia will look to extend their lead at the top of the World Cup qualifying group I table when they welcome Finland at the Stadion Gradski vrt in Osijek on Friday night. Croatia suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat on the road in Turkey last time out, with Ante Cacic’s men conceding the goal in the last 15 minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Finland only picked up a 0-1 victory on the road at Kosovo a month ago thanks to a late goal from Teemu Pukki. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Croatia should be able to grab an easy victory in this one as they have been incredibly strong on home soil over the past four years. Furthermore, they have kept a clean sheet in 13 clean sheets in this term, and I’m expecting to keep another one in this one as Finland looked terrible going forward throughout this qualifying campaign.

Croatia Preview

Croatia’s form over the past eleven months has been a mixed run of form with five defeats and five victories in their last ten games across all competitions. The Croatians’ recent form in this World Cup qualifying campaign has been poor as they have suffered two 1-0 defeats in their last three group fixtures. Despite the recent poor run of form, Croatia still sit at the top of the group I table tied on 16 points with the second-placed Iceland, just two points clear of the third-placed Turkey and the 4th-placed Ukraine. Croatia looked incredibly strong at the back throughout this qualifying campaign as they hold the group’s best defence with just three goals conceded in eight rounds. Croatia can count on their home form over the past four years, having lost just two of their last 20 home fixtures across all competitions. They are undefeated in their four home qualifiers throughout this campaign, having kept a clean sheet in three of these. Mario Mandzukic has been Croatia’s most prolific player in front of goal throughout this WC qualifying campaign as he is currently the team’s topscorer with four goals in his eight appearances.

Croatia Team News

The team is led by captain Luka Modric, who expects to join Darijo Srna, Stipe Pletikosa, Josip Simunic, Ivica Olic and Dario Simic in ‘Club 100’.

Finland Preview

Finland have been terrible over the past year and a half, winning just three of their last 15 games across all competitions. However, Finland looked decent in this World Cup qualifying campaign recently, registering back-to-back 1-0 wins in their most recent two qualifiers. They find themselves only in 5th position in the group I table with seven points to their name after eight rounds, which means they are already edged out of this group. Finland haven’t looked that bad at the back throughout this campaign, but they have definitely struggled going forward. They have only scored six goals in eight games, which is the second worst attacking record in the group. The experienced striker Teemu Pukki has been Finland’s most dangerous player in front of goal throughout this qualification process, scoring two goals in his seven appearances. Away from home, Finland have only won three of their last 15 games across all competitions, but they managed to pick up three points from their most recent trip to Kosovo a month ago. The most worrying fact is that Finland have failed to get on the scoresheet in five of their last nine away games across all competitions.

Finland Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Finland ahead of this trip.
