Coventry City vs Notts County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday evening (19:30) fixture is a first-leg of the League One promotion play-off semi-final.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Coventry ended the season with a 0-0 draw away to Morecambe that confirmed their play-off spot.  The Sky Blues won three of their last five to end on 75 points and secure sixth place in the table.

Notts County finished their campaign with a goalless home draw against already promoted Luton.  They also won three of their last five to end on 77 points and a respectable fifth placed finish.

The last meeting between these sides came in April and County won that one 2-1 thanks to a Jonathan Forte brace.  The previous clash in Coventry came on the first day of the season and City won that day 3-0 due to a Jodi Jones hat-trick.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Sky Blues strong home form makes them favourites to win this game and that is hard to argue with given the Magpies have struggled on the road this season and while I could not put anyone off a home win I prefer to find value elsewhere.

These two sides featured in the top eight of goalscoring teams this season and in Mark McNulty and Jorge Grant both have forward talent to get among the goals.  Over 2.5 goals looks a good play here as does YES in the both teams to score market while the two could also be combined in a double.

Coventry City Preview

The Sky Blues will be looking to bounce back at the first attempt following their relegation from League One last season.  Mark Robins has done a good job at the helm despite the problems going on at ownership level.

At the Ricoh Arena, they have been good this season with the sixth best home record in the division.  It has been a mixed bag in front of their own fans of late with three victories, two draws and three defeats in their last eight.

They have the joint-eighth best ranked attack with 64 goals scored which is led by a remarkable 23 goals from Mark McNulty.  Their defence is the third best ranked with 47 goals and 16 clean sheets ten of which have come at home.

Jodi Jones and Tony Andreu (both knee issues) are both rated doubtful.

Notts County Preview

The Magpies started the season well and at one point looked like title contenders but in the end had to settle for fifth.  This is their third season in League Two and they will be looking to bounce back to the third tier.

Away from Meadow Lane, they have struggled this season winning just seven times and losing on nine occasions.  They have lost three of their last four on the road and won just two of their last 11.

The 71 goals they scored this campaign is the fourth best in the division and is led by 15 goals from Jorge Grant though he has just grabbed two since the turn of the year.  Their defence was joint-fourth ranked with 13 clean sheets for the season though just four of those came on the road.

Notts County Team News

Jorge Grant (ankle), Matt Tootle (ankle) are both hoping to be fit for this match.
