Coventry City vs Exeter City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Monday afternoon (15:00) fixture is a League Two play-off final with a place in League One on offer to the winner.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Coventry qualified for the final by finishing in sixth place and then beating Notts County 5-2 on aggregate.  The Sky Blues were level at 1-1 after their home leg but an excellent away performance saw them through with a 4-1 success.

Exeter booked their place at Wembley by coming fourth in the league and then defeating Lincoln 3-1 on aggregate.  It was goalless after the first leg but they used home advantage to come through.

The two meetings between these sides marked the first ever times they had done battle in the Football League.  Both sides won their home game with it ending 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena and 1-0 at St James’ Park.

Betting Tips and Predictions

These two sides finished the season just five points apart and have won one each of their meetings so this looks a tough game to call.  At the prices, I would make a case for Exeter though having advised them previously to be promoted I am happy to sit on that bet.

Over 2.5 goals looks the play here as the Sky Blues have seen ten of their last 13 go over this mark while the Grecians have seen eight of their last 11.  Both teams to score has happened in nine of the last ten for the Midlands outfit and nine of last 11 for the Devon outfit so this also looks a sensible play in what might be the most open of the three finals.

Coventry City Preview

The Sky Blues are in good form going four without a defeat and losing just one of their last seven.  On the road, they have also been playing well winning each of their last three and losing just one of their last eight.

Nine of the last ten the Midlands outfit have played and 11 of 13 have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Ten of their last 13 have gone over 2.5 goals with four of the last six going over 3.5 goals.

Mark McNulty has netted in both play-off games so far and has five in his last four appearances.  Tom Bayliss is also in good form and the 19-year-old has three from his previous five.

The Grecians ended the season strongly losing just one of their last nine and three of their final 17 matches.  On the road, they are without a win in their last three and have won just two of their last seven.

Nine of the last 11 games that Exeter have been involved in have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Eight of the last 11 have gone over 2.5 goals with three of the last five going over 3.5.

Jayden Stockley has been excellent this season netting 20 times and he has grabbed eight in the last ten.  55% of their goals have come in the second-half with 25% in the final 15 minutes.
