Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Chicago Fire failed to capitalise on a huge opportunity to jump into the top two after only managing a 1-1 home draw with New York City. Chicago capitalised on some poor play from Maximiliano Moralez to come up with the opening goal in the 20th minute. Nemanja Nikolic scored the goal that put the home team ahead, but David Villa equalised just before half-time. Philadelphia Union made a major impact at the top of the Western Conference after a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders. Michael Epps came up with the first goal in the 28th minute, while Roland Alberg confirmed the three points with a late goal.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chicago come into the game after having won the last three home games against Philadelphia Union. The team also came in with a strong performance against New York City in the recent match and could have scored more than just the one goal. Despite two wins in the last three, Philadelphia are a team that concedes several goals on the road – 12 in the last six away games. Chicago have scored eight goals in the last five home matches against Philadelphia. I would back this game to produce more than 2.5 goals.

Nemanja Nikolic is back on form and took his tally to 21 for the season with the opener against New York City. After going through an extended goal drought, the striker has scored in four out of his last five d. I would go with Nikolic to score anytime in the game.

Chicago Fire Preview

Chicago Fire lost a glorious opportunity to enter back into the top two of the Eastern conference as they failed to capitalise on Atlanta United’s dropped points. A win over New York City would have given a huge boost in this top two race. As it is, Chicago have all to do in the remaining two matches of the season. Recent form has been decent for the club, but it does not even come close to their form up until June – when the team were simply unbeatable in almost every game. Nemanja Nikolic is the leading scorer in the MLS with 21 goals – ahead of David Villa.

Chicago Fire Team News

Michael De Leeuw (cruciate ligament), Christian Dean (foot), Patrick Doody (hamstring), John Goossens (ankle), Daniel Johnson (ligament), Bastian Schweinsteiger (unknown), Juninho (knee), and Jorge Bava (elbow) are the injury worries for Chicago Fire.

Philadelphia Union Preview

Philadelphia Union are out of the picture for the play-offs, but that did not stop the club from coming up with a strong performance against Seattle Sounders in the recent game. The team are playing for pride in the remaining two matches of the season and they can rise up to as high as seventh in the Eastern conference table. Recent form for Philadelphia has seen them pick up two wins in last three, but this jump in form has come a little too late for Jim Curtin’s team.

Philadelphia Union Team News

Ken Tribbett (Achilles tendon), Joshua Yaro (knee), Fabian Herbers (hernia), Chris Pontius (overload), Keegan Rosenberry (ankle), Warren Creavalle (hamstring), and Brian Carroll (back) are the players unavailable for Philadelphia Union manager Jim Curtin.
