Chicago Fire vs Minnesota United Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Chicago Fire’s poor form extended as the club suffered a 3-1 defeat against Toronto during the weekend. Marco Delgado scored after just 30 minutes, but David Accam equalised for Chicago in the 54th minute. However, Chicago suffered a first home defeat of the season after goals from Nicholas Hasler and Sebastian Giovinco in the second half. Minnesota United suffered a 2-1 loss against Seattle Sounders to remain bottom of the table. Ethan Finlay provided the away team with a surprise lead in the 24th minute, but Chad Marshall came up with the equaliser just seven minutes later. A late penalty from Clint Dempsey completed the comeback for Seattle.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The home form has been the major positive for Chicago Fire up until now, but the club suffered a first defeat at home this season against Toronto. Yet, Chicago will be too strong for Minnesota, who have no away wins this season. Minnesota have also taken only two points in the away games this season, while conceding 14 in the last six. Even after the defeat against Toronto, Chicago have 17 goals in six home games. I would back Chicago Fire to score over 2.5 goals.

David Accam ended his three-game goal drought with the goal against Toronto. In the absence of goals from Nemanja Nikolic, Accam has been providing the biggest thrust up front. He has 13 goals for the season. I would back Accam to score anytime.

Chicago Fire to score over 2.5 goals – 7/10

David Accam to score anytime – 10/11

Chicago Fire Preview

The tremendous run of form built up by Chicago Fire has certainly disappeared, as the club suffered a fourth defeat in the last five league games. Up until now, fans were expecting Chicago to recover from a poor run of form with games at the Toyota Park. Yet, a first home defeat of the season against Toronto squashed those hopes. Now, the club are third in the table with a five point deficit to the second spot, which is occupied by New York City. Nemanja Nikolic is no longer the top scorer in the 2017 MLS charts, but he remains Chicago’s top scorer this season with 16.

Chicago Fire Team News

Jorge Bava (elbow) is certainly ruled out of the game, while John Goossens (ankle), Daniel Johnson (ligament), and Brandon Vincent (thigh) are doubtful.

Minnesota United Preview

Minnesota have been confined to the bottom of the table and the club slumped to a third defeat in the last four league matches. Even though Minnesota are level on points with Colorado Rapids, the goal difference for Adrian Heath’s team has been extremely poor. Minnesota rank as the worst defence in the league after conceding 51 goals in the 24 games. Surprisingly, the team has the worst home record in terms of defending after allowing 23 goals at home. Christian Ramirez is the top scorer for Minnesota with 11 league goals.

Minnesota United Team News

Thomas de Villardi (Achilles tendon), Vadim Demidov (knee), Bernardo Anor (leg), Marc Burch (hernia), Justin Davis (foot), and Christian Ramirez (hamstring) are the players unavailable for Minnesota United.
