Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chelsea will really need to respond in style after their defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend. I’m expecting them to do so, with Roma historically struggling on their travels in this competition.

Chelsea Preview

Nothing could more perfectly summarise the shocking element of the Premier League more so than Chelsea’s defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal gave Palace - who were yet to score a goal or pick up a point this season - a shock lead early on, though Tiemoue Bakayoko’s header made it 1-1 seven minutes later. Despite pulling on level terms, it was Palace who scored the game’s next goal, as Wilfried Zaha slotted past Thibaut Courtois with a calm finish on the stroke of half-time. Chelsea were unable to deliver a response, much to the frustration of the furious Antonio Conte, with this now back-to-back Premier League defeats for the defending champions. Chelsea’s last victory of any kind came in this competition, as they hugely impressed during their 2-1 win away to Atletico Madrid, though have not performed close to that level since. With just one defeat in their last nine home Champions League games, Chelsea currently boast a strong record in this competition at home, with PSG the only side to defeat them on home turf during that time.

Chelsea Team News

Chelsea have a number of injury concerns, with Danny Drinkwater (calf), N’Golo Kante, Victor Moses and Alvaro Morata (all hamstring) all set to miss out for the Blues.

Roma Preview

Roma saw their winning run come to an end at the weekend at the expense of Napoli extending their own following a 1-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico. The Serie A leaders have been in exceptional form so far this season, scoring the game’s only goal after 20 minutes when Lorenzo Insigne struck for the visitors, who in the process of winning made it eight victories from eight games in the league. The result leaves Roma 5th in the Serie A table, nine points behind leaders Napoli, although currently with a game in hand on the leaders. Striker Edin Dzeko has wasted little time in picking up from where he left off last term, scoring seven goals in seven appearances. Roma, though, have a poor away record in the Champions League, having not won a game in ten attempts away from home before their 2-1 success over Qarabag in their last European outing. Having also drawn 0-0 at home to Atletico Madrid, Roma now sit 2nd in Group C heading into this contest and would go a long way to qualifying for the knockout stages should they get a positive result here.

Roma Team News

Gregoire Defrel (thigh) is ruled out for Roma here, while Kostas Manolas (thigh), Kevin Strootman and Stephan El Shaarawy (both groin).
