Chelsea vs Peterborough United Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Chelsea will be aiming to bounce straight back from their midweek defeat when they welcome Peterborough United at the Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon in the FA Cup. Chelsea were beaten 2-0 on the road at Tottenham on Wednesday night, to end their incredible 13 game winning run in the Premier League. On the other hand, Peterborough United only managed a 1-1 away draw at Scunthorpe United last time out in League One, thanks to a late own-goal from Scunthorpe’s defender Charlie Goode. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea’s hopes to break the record for the longest ever winning run in the Premier League were ended on Wednesday as Antonio Conte’s boys lost 2-0 on the road at Tottenham. Despite this defeat, the Blues still sit on top of the Premier League table with 49 points to their name after 20 rounds, five points clear of the second-placed Liverpool. Antonio Conte’s well-known 3-4-3 formation seems to be working very good for Chelsea, as the Londoners looked solid at both ends of the field throughout this Premier League campaign. They managed a decent tally of 42 goals in 20 rounds while conceding just 15 in the process. Diego Costa has played a crucial role in Chelsea’s performances so far this season, helping the team with 14 goals and 5 assists in his 19 league appearances. At home, Chelsea are looking unstoppable as well, winning ten of their eleven home fixtures across all competitions. Furthermore, Chelsea picked up a 5-0 home win over Peterborough in the sole meeting between these two sides in an FA Cup fixture. The Blues were knocked out of the League Cup by West Ham back in October, and without European football, I’m expecting Conte to focus on both the FA Cup and the Premier League. Last year, Chelsea managed to reach the 6th round of the FA Cup, losing 2-0 on the road against Everton.

Peterborough United Preview

Peterborough United have endured a decent competitive 2016/2017 season over the past three months, losing just two of their last 15 games across all competitions. They are currently unbeaten in seven games in all competitions, but their last three games have ended in 1-1 draws. The Posh currently sit in 8th position in the League One table, but they’re just two points off the top six. The good news is that Peterborough managed to score an impressive tally of 38 goals this season, which is one of the best offensive records in the division. Gwion Edwards is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 7 goals, while Marcus Maddison and Tom Nichols have bagged 12 goals between them. Peterborough can count on their recent away form ahead of this clash as they are unbeaten in the last six away fixtures across all competitions, scoring two goals in four of these. Regarding their current FA Cup campaign, the Posh already picked up two victories over Chesham and Notts County in the first two rounds of the competition. The bad news is that Peterborough United have only won once in their last six away games in the FA Cup.

Chelsea Team News

Todd Kane, Jon Obi Mikel and David Luiz are all doubts, but Charly Musonda and John Terry are both back in training.

Peterborough United Team News

Jack Baldwin is the only injury absentee for Peterborough United ahead of this trip.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m not expecting much of a contest here, as Chelsea have been impeccable at the Stamford Bridge so far this season. I’m backing the Blues to score at least three goals here, but also to keep a clean sheet as their defence looked impenetrable at times.
