Chelsea vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Chelsea fell to a second consecutive away defeat with the team losing 2-1 against Wolves in the midweek action. Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s deflected effort helped Chelsea with a deserved lead after minutes, but the second-half brought about a response from the home team. Chelsea’s lethargic approach allowed Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota to score in the space of four second-half minutes to stun the blues. Manchester City picked up a 13th league win of the campaign with a 2-1 success over Watford. Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez scored either side of the break to hand a win for the visitors, who were given a tough end to the match by Abdoulaye Doucoure’s 85th minute goal.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City travel to Stamford Bridge looking for a fourth consecutive victory over Chelsea in all competitions. Even though Stamford Bridge has not been a happy hunting ground for City in the past, this has changed due to the recent influx of talent within the Manchester outfit. City have picked up a victory at Stamford Bridge in two out of the last three visits, while Chelsea are licking their wounds after back-to-back away defeats. I would pick a victory for City – even if both teams play a similar style football.

City have been able to register a solitary clean sheet – against West Ham – in the last five league encounters. Even against Watford in the midweek action, the table leaders could have conceded a couple of goals. Chelsea have enough attacking potential to come up with at least a goal. I would opt for both teams to score.

Chelsea Preview

Maurizio Sarri blamed overconfidence for Chelsea’s defeat against Wolves. This defeat clearly showed that Sarri’s Chelsea is a work in progress and the blues need a lot of time in order to start challenging for honours alongside Manchester City. Chelsea have fallen a remarkable 10 points behind table leaders City and it is fast emerging into a battle for the top four for the blues. This does not bode well with the future of Eden Hazard still uncertain. Chelsea, though, have been able to profit from the emergence of players like Loftus-Cheek, while existing stars like Azpilicueta and N’Golo Kante have signed long-term deals.

Chelsea Team News

Ross Barkley (knock), Victor Moses (back), and Marco van Ginkel (cruciate ligament) are unavailable for the Blues.

Manchester City Preview

Pep Guardiola was able to make six changes and still come away with a good victory against Watford. It is a reflection of the strength in depth possessed by Manchester City, whose biggest grievance of the 2018-19 campaign may be the inability to pull away from Liverpool despite being brilliant in almost every regard. City have also been able to keep a clean sheet only once in the last five league matches, as the constant rotation from Guardiola is starting to have its say at the back. Leroy Sane has been a crucial player for City in the last few games.

Manchester City Team News

Sergio Aguero (muscle), Claudio Bravo (Achilles tendon), Benjamin Mendy (meniscus), Kevin De Bruyne (knee), and Alexander Zinchenko (broken nose) are unavailable for City.
