Chelsea vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Chelsea welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on 30/09/17 in arguably the biggest game of the Premier League season so far. Chelsea were excellent in midweek, beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 away from home, while City were 2-0 winners over Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League group match. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Barring Chelsea’s opening day disaster, both of these teams have started the season in outstanding form, and with there being so little to split between them, as well as Chelsea holding home advantage, I’m going for a score draw.

Chelsea Preview

Those questioning if Chelsea could match up with some of Europe’s big guns were dealt an emphatic answer as Antonio Conte’s side won away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night. They were forced to come from behind in order to do so, with Antoine Griezmann putting the hosts in front from the penalty spot. Alvaro Morata headed the Blues level from Eden Hazard’s cross in his first return to Spain since leaving Real Madrid before Michy Batshuayi dramatically finished at the near post in the 94th minute to seal a huge win for his side. It leaves them in a particularly strong position in their Champions League group and they could conceivably qualify with two games to spare if they beat Roma home and away. With seven wins and a draw from their last eight matches, the defending Premier League champions have been exceptional in recent weeks, showing form replicant of last season’s title-winning performances. Winning in Madrid in midweek will give the team a real confidence boost ahead of this huge clash, which they will feel buoyant about getting a result from, with Liverpool the only top-six side to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge under Conte - with that game being just his fifth in charge of the club.

Chelsea Team News

David Luiz serves the final game of his suspension for his clash this weekend, while Danny Drinkwater (calf) is out through injury.

Manchester City Preview

The scoreline may not have been as extravagant as in recent outings, but Manchester City maintained their winning run with a comfortable victory at home to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Following a goalless first half, it took City just three minutes to score in the second period as Kevin de Bruyne curled home an excellent effort from the edge of the box past Andriy Pyatov. Pyatov was more successful against Sergio Aguero, saving the Argentine’s penalty in the 72nd minute, but Raheem Sterling’s last-minute effort put the game to bed just minutes from the end. City come into this fixture off the back of a seven-match winning streak in all competitions and top of the Premier League on goal difference following their 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last weekend. This, though, should prove to be their toughest test of the season so far, with their clash with Liverpool at the Etihad all but ending after 37 minutes when Sadio Mane was sent off. Winning their last three Premier League games by an aggregate score of 16-0, Pep Guardiola’s team have looked untouchable in recent weeks as they now look to hold onto top spot in the Premier League.

Manchester City Team News

Benjamin Mendy (knee) faces a long spell on the sidelines for Manchester CIty, but Vincent Kompany (calf) is pushing for a return.
