Chelsea vs Liverpool Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Chelsea continued in hot pursuit of Tottenham after a 1-0 win over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Cesc Fabregas broke the deadlock after just four minutes but the blues did allow Swansea several chances in the game. The Welsh outfit, however, were unable to find a way past Thibaut Courtois due to a lack of attacking quality. Liverpool made it to the final of the Champions League after beating Roma 7-6 on aggregate. The second leg saw Liverpool lose 4-2, as Roma staged an impressive comeback. Sadio Mane’s goal was cancelled out by James Milner’s inadvertent own goal, but Wijnaldum put Liverpool back in front. Roma scored three goals in the second half – through Edin Dzeko and Radja Nainggolan (2) – but were unable to make a comeback.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chelsea and Liverpool have played out extremely tight games in the past, but this game is likely to be quite different. The poor defensive run for both teams is likely to end up producing a goal fest. Crucially, Chelsea will be chasing a victory more than Liverpool as the top four is once again back in sight after the weekend results. I would go with a win for Chelsea. The game is expected to witness plenty of goals, as Liverpool have been playing a breathtaking attacking football of late. The 4-2 result against Roma in the midweek is a perfect example of the same. Even under pressure, Liverpool will play an attacking brand of football. I would back over 2.5 goals in total.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea have been on a strong run of form over the last few weeks and the team has been motivated heavily by Tottenham slipping up during the same period. The 10-point deficit after the 3-1 loss against Spurs at Stamford Bridge seemingly ended their hopes of qualification to the Champions League, but Conte’s team are back in the reckoning with two matches left. Even now, the possibility of finishing in the top four is beyond Chelsea’s hands but momentum is certainly with the blues. Olivier Giroud has been a breath of fresh air in the Chelsea team, while the likes of Eden Hazard have also been contributing a lot more of late.

Chelsea Team News

Danny Drinkwater (calf) remains on the sidelines for Chelsea while David Luiz is back in training.

Liverpool Preview

The Champions League final will be on the lips of every Liverpool fan and the game against Real Madrid has the potential to end a decade of suffering for the club with regard to European competitions. This may force Liverpool into a retreat mode in the remaining two league matches, as the club have almost sealed a top four finish. Even though the lead over Chelsea is at six points, the blues can close the gap to a more modest three points with two matches left. The likes of Salah and Sadio Mane could be rested in the last two league matches with focus on the Champions League.

Liverpool Team News

Emre Can (back), Joel Matip (thigh), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (ligament), and Joe Gomez (ankle) are missing from action for Liverpool.
