Chelsea vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Chelsea suffered the biggest league defeat in more than two decades after a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Joshua King (2), David Brooks, and Charlie Daniels were able to rip apart Chelsea, as Maurizio Sarri admitted that he was struggling to get the best out of his players. Huddersfield Town’s new manager Jan Siewert started off with a defeat after a 1-0 loss against Everton. Richarlison scored the only goal of the game after just two minutes, and Huddersfield were unable to find a way even when playing against 10 men – due to Lucas Digne’s red card in the 66th minute.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chelsea are in a spot of bother with Maurizio Sarri’s recent public criticism of players certainly not going well in the dressing room. The horrendous performance against Bournemouth is a reflection of the same. Huddersfield, though, do not have the firepower to capitalise on the situation. Even when playing against Everton with a numerical advantage in the final 20 minutes, Huddersfield were unable to get anything out of the match. I would opt for a Chelsea clean sheet.

A problem with Chelsea has been the lack of penetration even when having most of the ball. It was rather surprising to see the team have 70% of the possession in the 4-0 loss against Bournemouth. Siewert’s team may decide to sit back and hit on the counter-attack. I would opt for under 2.5 goals.

Chelsea Preview

There is danger looming at Stamford Bridge after Maurizio Sarri saw his team slip out of the top four places following a heavy defeat. The manner of the defeat and the recent comments from the manager appear to hint that Sarri is losing the dressing room. Chelsea have also been showing signs of making panic purchases, while top stars like Eden Hazard, Willian, and Callum Hudson-Odoi are linked with moves away from West London. Chelsea are still trying to acquire players in the final day of the transfer window but this is unlikely to provide a positive mood in the dressing room, which no longer seems to be listening to the manager.

Chelsea Team News

Marco van Ginkel (cruciate ligament) is the only player unavailable for Maurizio Sarri.

Huddersfield Town Preview

Siewert would have been aware of the scale of the task on his hands when he took over as the manager of Huddersfield Town, who are the worst performing team going forward in all of the top five European leagues. There is little creativity within the team and forwards like Stevie Mounie and Laurent Depoitre have been unable to deliver. Huddersfield have returned with just 13 goals from an incredible 24 matches. Infusing the team with fresh ideas going forward will be the first task for manager Siewert. Huddersfield are already facing the risk of being cut off from safety and the club has brought in the likes of Karlan Grant and Jason Puncheon in the window.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Abdelhamid Sabiri (broken collarbone) and Daniel Williams (knee) are the players missing from action for Huddersfield.
