Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Chelsea suffered more disappointment in the second consecutive visit to Manchester, as they fell 1-0 to Manchester City. Antonio Conte set out his team with a full-blooded defensive approach and this helped hold the City until the break. Bernardo Silva scored immediately after the break and Chelsea failed to recover from the setback. Crystal Palace could not hold on to a two-goal lead at home, as the team lost 3-2 against Manchester United on Monday night. Andros Townsend and Patrick van Aanholt provided huge joy at Selhurst Park, but United produced a spectacular second-half comeback with goals from Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku, and Nemanja Matic.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Most Chelsea fans head into this game in disbelief, as Crystal Palace come to Stamford Bridge aiming for a third consecutive win on this pitch. Palace are also looking for a double over Chelsea after having achieved a 2-1 success earlier in the campaign. This London derby is expected to be an intense affair, but the lapses in concentration for both clubs is likely to hand opportunities for strikers at either end. I would back both teams to score.

The 2-1 score has occurred in three of the last five meetings between these two teams. In fact, Palace have managed a 2-1 win in their last two visits to Stamford Bridge. Despite being a longshot, I see an outstanding price available to back a 2-1 win for Palace.

Both teams to score – 11/10

Chelsea Preview

The back-to-back losses in Manchester place Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in a difficult situation, as he cannot prioritise between the Premier League and the Champions League. Chelsea have a huge second leg Champions League game against Barcelona a few days after taking on Crystal Palace. Conte will be aware that the London derby will sap his team of energy, which is vital against Barcelona. However, resting the squad is ruled out with the team facing a huge fight just to finish in the top four. Chelsea’s last league victory was against bottom club West Brom almost a month ago.

Chelsea Team News

N’Golo Kante is likely to be left out of the game as a precaution after being identified with a heart problem last weekend. Ross Barkley (hamstring), Tiemoue Bakayoko (calf), and David Luiz (ankle) are on the sidelines due to injuries.

Crystal Palace Preview

Palace proved that old habits die hard, as the team lost a huge advantage against Manchester United in comical fashion. The lack of effort from the team in the final 25 minutes of the game led to the loss against United from a strong position. The result extends the winless run for Roy Hodgson’s men to six matches, and this has brought them back into the bottom three at the worst possible time. Christian Benteke has been in decent form – even if he has scored just one goal in the last 10 games.

Crystal Palace Team News

Manager Roy Hodgson still has a huge injury list with Bakary Sako (ankle) Scott Dann (cruciate ligament), Wilfried Zaha (knee), Yohan Cabaye (groin), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (knee), Joel Ward (knock), Julian Speroni (knee), Connor Wickham (cruciate ligament), Mamadou Sakho (calf), and Jason Puncheon (cruciate ligament) unavailable.
