Chelsea vs Arsenal Match Prediction

By Dion McArthur

Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on 10/01/28 as both teams look to secure a place in the EFL Cup final. Chelsea drew 0-0 away to Norwich last time out, while Arsenal were humbled during a 4-2 loss at Nottingham Forest. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The fitness of Eden Hazard could have a huge impact on this game, with Chelsea looking a different animal with the Belgian in their side. Assuming he is fit and available, I’m expecting Antonio Conte’s side to take the early advantage here.

Chelsea Preview

In terms of famous FA Cup ties, Chelsea’s clash with Norwich proved to be just the opposite of that, as a rotated Chelsea team failed to impress at Carrow Road during a 0-0 draw with the Championship side. David Luiz made his return to the Chelsea time, while the likes of Kenedy and Michy Batshuayi were also handed the opportunity to impress, but failed to do so emphatically, wasting the chance to show why they should be in Antonio Conte’s first XI. Instead, they are now forced to settle for a replay - perhaps the least desirable outcome given they have to play two legs of football against both Arsenal and Barcelona in the EFL Cup and Champions League respectively. Drawing three of their last five games, Chelsea have been in somewhat of a slump of late, to their sky-high standards at least, and will still wonder how they failed to defeat Arsenal in their 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium. Alvaro Morata endured a nightmare evening against the Gunners, but, fortunately for him, hasn’t had to wait too long to get another bite of the cherry against their London rivals. Chelsea have won four on the bounce in all competitions at Stamford Bridge, while Arsenal still haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since a 5-3 win in October 2011.

Chelsea Team News

Eden Hazard (calf) will be assessed for Chelsea, but both Baba Rahman (cruciate ligament) and Ross Barkley (hamstring) are unavailable.

Arsenal Preview

Arsene Wenger suffered a rare first as Arsenal manager at the weekend - being eliminated in the third round of the FA Cup after a humbling 4-2 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest. Eric Lichaj scored a brace either side of a Per Mertesacker equaliser, the second of which being the game’s outstanding moment of quality as he struck a volley into the top corner. Ben Brereton scored from the penalty spot in the second half to put Forest 3-1 ahead, and although Danny Welbeck restored hope with ten minutes to go, but Kieran Dowell netted Forest’s second penalty of the match to seal an embarrassing early exit for the inexperienced Gunners. Now with just one win in five, Arsenal will be looking to get that winning feeling back, and fast, as they look to wait a seven-year wait for a victory at Stamford Bridge. West Ham are the only Premier League side the Gunners have had to face to this point of the competition, as Wenger now looks to win the League Cup for the first time in his career - the only trophy that has evaded his grasp to date. Having missed the defeat to Forest at the weekend, contract rebels Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are both set to return despite the future of the pair remaining in the air.

Arsenal Team News

Sead Kolasinac (knee), Nacho Monreal (knee), Santi Cazorla (achilles) and Olivier Giroud (hamstring) are all ruled out. Laurent Koscielny (achilles), Granit Xhaka (groin) and Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) will be assessed.
