Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on 17/09/17 in a huge early-season contest between two London rivals. Chelsea were 6-0 winners in the Champions League on Tuesday night against Qarabag, while Arsenal beat FC Koln 3-1 in the Europa League on Thursday. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chelsea have had the upper-hand over Arsenal in the Premier League in recent seasons and I’m expecting that trend to continue here. I’m going for a home win, with Arsenal yet to convince they have what it takes to beat the reigning champions.

Chelsea Preview

Tuesday evening saw Chelsea make an emphatic return to Champions League football as they cruised to a 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag. Both Pedro and Davide Zappacosta struck in the first-half from distance as Antonio Conte’s men made light work of the Kazakh side in the first half. Cesar Azpilicueta and Tiemoue Bakayoko both netted their first goals of the season during the second half, as Michy Batshuayi and a Maksim Medvedev own goal added gloss to the scoreline for the hosts. The victory was Chelsea’s fourth in a row in all competitions following their stunning opening day loss to Burnley - with, ironically, the Burnley game being the easiest on paper of all their Premier League fixtures to date. Despite losing to Arsenal in both the Community Shield and last season’s FA Cup Final, Chelsea have generally had the rub of the green over the Gunners in the Premier League in recent times, losing just one of their last eleven meetings with seven victories. Having already seen off Tottenham this season in their meeting, Chelsea won’t fear the prospect of another high-pressure match this weekend.

Chelsea Team News

Danny Drinkwater (calf) is Chelsea’s only injury doubt here, with Eden Hazard (ankle) in contention to start after featuring in midweek.

Arsenal Preview

Thursday night football is something of an unfamiliar territory for the modern Arsenal, who made a winning start to life in the Europa League after enviously watching their rivals compete in the Champions League the two evenings before. After kick-off was delayed in dramatic fashion, the game commenced in the same chaotic fashion, with Jhon Cordoba scoring from all of 45 yards. However, Arsenal responded well in the second half, scoring three goals courtesy of Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin, both of which came after Alexis Sanchez’s superb strike on his return to the starting XI. Having been humiliated away to Liverpool prior to the international break, the Gunners have since made somewhat of a decent recovery, scoring six goals and winning twice in their two games since then. Not capitulating in the way they did on that occasion at Anfield is vital if they are to have any hope of getting a result here, with the Gunners likely to be under plenty of pressure from the offset. Deciding whether or not to start Sanchez is perhaps Wenger’s biggest dilemma, with Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck and Alexandre Lacazette all impressing against Bournemouth.

Arsenal Team News

Francis Coquelin (hamstring) and Santi Cazorla (achilles) are both ruled out here, while Calum Chambers (groin) is a doubt.
