Celtic vs St.Johnstone Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Celtic had a memorable week with regard to cup competitions as the team sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Partick Thistle. A hat-trick from James Forrest was able to see Celtic through, even as the away team tried to put up fight with goals from Kris Doolan and Conor Sammon. In the midweek Europa League action, Celtic secured a crucial 1-0 lead in the first leg over Zenit St Petersburg. St Johnstone suffered a 3-0 loss against Hearts to get knocked out of the FA Cup. Kyle Lafferty’s brace along with Demetri Mitchell’s goal helped put St Johnstone out of the competition.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Celtic have been approaching games with a strong scoring form. The team has scored over 2.5 goals in three out of the last five home games, while St Johnstone have also seen Celtic hit this figure in the last five meetings at Celtic Park. St Johnstone’s defensive record in recent weeks has been rather poor with nine goals conceded in the last six. I would back Celtic to score over 2.5 goals. The absence of Leigh Griffiths due to an injury increases the pressure on Scott Sinclair to come up with the goals. Sinclair was rested in the midweek game against Zenit, and he should be fresh for this encounter. After having scored three goals in six games against this opponent, I would back Scott Sinclair to score anytime.

Celtic Preview

Celtic have had an excellent week as the team progressed further in the cup competitions. The FA Cup quarter-final appearance has been met with an equally positive win over Zenit St Petersburg in the first leg of the Europa League knockout stages. Over the next two weeks, the cup competitions will take precedence for Celtic. Brendan Rodgers will see his team take on Greenock Morton in the FA Cup and also travel huge distances to take on Zenit in the second leg of the Europa League. The club need not worry about the league for the time being, as they have an eight-point advantage over Aberdeen. Scott Sinclair is the top scorer with nine goals in 24 league appearances.

Celtic Team News

Manager Brendan Rodgers will be without Patrick Roberts (thigh), Craig Gordon (knee), Leigh Griffiths (calf), Anthony Ralston (knee), and Johnny Hayes (tibia fracture) due to injuries.

St.Johnstone Preview

St Johnstone are in danger of conceding the eighth spot to Dundee, as the team continue to go from one bad result to the other. The dropout from the FA Cup could actually help St Johnstone focus on the league. Over the last six matches, St Johnstone have scored only two goals and this happens to be the worst record amongst all the 12 teams. At the back, the team has conceded nine goals. The lack of an outright goalscorer has been to blame. Steve MacLean is the club’s top scorer with five goals in 20 appearances.

St.Johnstone Team News

Tommy Wright will be without Callum Hendry (knee), David McMillan (knee), Brian Easton (knee), and Stefan Scougall (knee) due to injuries.
