Celtic vs Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Celtic look to make it four consecutive wins, as the team comes from the back of a 2-0 victory over Dundee at the Dens Park. James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths came up with the first half goals that were sufficient for Celtic to break the Dundee defence. Rangers were able to recover from a two-game losing sequence to beat Motherwell 2-0 at Ibrox. Danny Wilson’s excellent strike in the 56th minute was built upon by Alfredo Morelos in the 76th minute. These goals came as Rangers struggled to break down Motherwell in the first half. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite the intense rivalry always associated with the old firm derby, Celtic have been able to claim five wins in the last six meetings. Rangers may not be able to dent this regard even now. The team has lost twice in the last four away matches, while Celtic have been able to claim four consecutive wins at Celtic Park. A few weeks ago, Celtic appeared to be fragile, but this seems to have gone away. Decent value is available while backing Celtic to win the game. Leigh Griffiths ended his six-game goal drought by scoring the second goal against Dundee. He has netted in the last two games against Rangers, while his overall record against this opponent stands at four goals in 10 appearances. Griffiths is a great pick to score at any time in the game.

Celtic Preview

After a couple of indifferent results, it appears that Celtic are back to their best. The team has had some excellent results of late and it has helped them establish a huge advantage over Aberdeen in the second spot. Celtic usually dominate the charts at scoring and defending, but this has not been the case in recent weeks. Brendan Rodgers has seen his team score 12 goals (one fewer than Kilmarnock) and concede seven goals (more than the likes of Hearts, Aberdeen, and Dundee) in the last six matches. Scott Sinclair is the top scorer at Celtic by a significant margin of eight goals, but the likes of Leigh Griffiths are also catching up.

Celtic Team News

Tom Rogic (knee), Patrick Roberts (thigh), and Jonny Hayes (leg) are the players unavailable for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rangers Preview

Rangers had a strong set of results when Graeme Murty was appointed as the manager until the end of the campaign, but defeats against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock seemed to end the honeymoon period. The victory over Motherwell could not have come at a crucial time, as Rangers will want to go into the break with confidence about being able to topple Aberdeen for the second spot. The opportunity to match Aberdeen’s result in the latest league match helped Rangers remain in the top spot, while they also opened up a five-point advantage over Neil Lennon and his Hibernian outfit. Alfredo Morelos extended his scoring run to nine goals after his effort against Motherwell.

Rangers Team News

Lee Wallace (groin), Jordan Rossiter (calf), Kenny Miller (Achilles tendon), and Graham Dorrans (ankle) are the players unavailable for Rangers manager Graeme Murty.
