Celtic vs Motherwell Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Celtic dropped further points in the SPL 2017-18 season after a 1-1 draw at Motherwell. The home team came extremely close to a famous result, as Mikael Lustig’s own goal in the 78th minute looked to have given them three points against the defending champions. Yet, Scott Sinclair converted from the spot in the 88th minute to hand Brendan Rodgers’ outfit at least a point. Celtic did have chances to win the game and even struck the woodwork prior to Sinclair’s equaliser.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Celtic will be delighted to make a return to Celtic Park as they have been on the road for the last five games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Motherwell will be on the road for the next four consecutive league matches. The 1-1 draw in the midweek match was a big surprise, but Motherwell have been able to get at least a goal in the last five away games in all competitions. Motherwell have lost only once in recent five league matches on the road. Celtic have drawn three out of the last five home games in the league. I would go with a surprise draw due to the attractive value that it offers. Scott Sinclair has contributed either a goal or an assist in four out of the five games against Motherwell in all competitions. Yet, Mousa Dembele is a better pick after having scored five goals in as many games against Motherwell. Dembele did not feature in the midweek league match but he is expected to return to action for this match. I would back Dembele to score anytime in the game.

Celtic Preview

Celtic have already shown that the club are not as imperious as they were in the 2016-17 season. Whilst the club still retain the unbeaten record in the SPL, Celtic have dropped eight points already. Last season, the team dropped a similar number of points throughout the entire campaign. Even then, the 66-game unbeaten domestic record will provide joy for Brendan Rodgers. Celtic have been close to succumbing to a loss on a few occasions this season, but they still happen to possess the best defensive record by a long distance. Going forward, Celtic have scored the same number of goals (31) as Hibernian. Scott Sinclair, Callum McGregor, and Leigh Griffiths all lead the scoring charts at Celtic with five goals each.

Celtic Team News

Anthony Ralston (knee) is the only player on the sidelines for Celtic.

Motherwell Preview

Motherwell may have managed only one win in the last five games across all competitions, but the club may be left overjoyed by the recent results against Celtic. It was the second of three consecutive matches against Celtic. After having lost the League Cup final, Robinson’s team were able to get revenge on their illustrious opponents by taking a point in the recent league match. Motherwell need to rediscover their winning touch as soon as possible. The club has been let down by a mediocre defence in recent weeks with just one clean sheet in five. Louis Moult remains the biggest goalscoring threat at Motherwell with eight goals in 14 appearances so far.

Motherwell Team News

Motherwell manager Steve Robinson does not have injury or suspension worries ahead of this match.
