Celtic vs Hibernian Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Celtic resumed SPL duties with a 2-1 win over Partick Thistle in the midweek action. Conor Sammon put the hosts in front with a penalty in the 34th minute, but then Scott Sinclair’s penalty cancelled out this goal in the 55th minute. Leigh Griffiths provided Celtic with their 16th league win of the season with a 70th minute goal. Hibernian were able to get a crucial 1-0 victory over Dundee to have a positive start to the 2018 league matches. John McGinn provided the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute, as he converted from close range.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hibernian are without a victory over Celtic in the last six attempts. The last victory for the Hibs over this opponent was back in 2012, but Hibernian have taken points off Celtic earlier in the campaign. The possibility of Neil Lennon’s team repeating the same appear remote, as Celtic have been looking slick in recent matches. I would go with a victory for Celtic at half-time and full-time.

Celtic have been able to keep four consecutive clean sheets at home, while Hibernian have been unable to score in two out of the last three away games. Even against Dundee, Hibernian required a solitary goal in order to get the victory during the weekend. A clean sheet for Celtic seems likely in this game.

Celtic Preview

There have been a few questions asked about Celtic’s ability to remain the overwhelming dominant force in the Scottish Premier League. The club has dropped several points so far, after six draws and one defeat. This is in sharp contrast to the 2016-17 campaign when Celtic dropped only eight points throughout the entire 38-game season. However, the recent run of positive results have helped the club maintain their 11 point advantage over Rangers in the second spot, while there has also been the progression into the latter stages of the FA Cup.

Celtic Team News

Brendan Rodgers has Tom Rogic (knee), Patrick Roberts (thigh), Marvin Compper (calf), Anthony Ralston (knee), and Jonny Hayes (tibia fracture) unavailable due to injuries.

Hibernian Preview

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon will once again have special motivation for this game, as it is against his former employers – and also due to the fact that it is at Celtic Park. Lennon has seen his Hibernian team end 2017 on a disappointing note, while they were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Hearts at the start of 2018. Yet, the victory over Dundee will help the club gloss over such disappointing results. The Champions League qualification places are still within reach for Hibernian, who are five points behind Aberdeen coming into this match. Hibernian have brought in some key players in this window, including Jamie MacLaren from SV Darmstadt 98. Anthony Stokes is the top scorer at Hibernian with seven goals in 18.

Hibernian Team News

David Gray (Achilles tendon) and Ross Laidlaw (shoulder) are the players unavailable for Hibernian.
