Celtic vs Aberdeen Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Celtic quickly recovered from their first league defeat after 69 games by beating Partick Thistle 2-0 at the Celtic Park. Stuart Armstrong’s screamer in the 35th minute opened the scoring, while Kieran Tierney combined well with Scott Sinclair to come up with the second goal in the 67th minute. Partick Thistle did not offer much of a threat going forward. Aberdeen secured a comfortable 4-1 win over Hibernian during the weekend. Goals from Graeme Shinnie and Gary Mackay-Steven (2) put Aberdeen 3-0 up by the half-time break. Mackay-Steven capped his impressive performance by completing a hat-trick in the second half, while Anthony Stokes scored a late consolation through the aid of a deflection.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Aberdeen prepare for this titanic clash looking to capitalise on Celtic’s inconsistent form over the last few weeks. Brendan Rodgers’ outfit have been unable to get consecutive victories in the league since the start of November, while Aberdeen are on a three-game winning sequence. Derek McInnes’ team have scored nine goals in the last five away matches, while Celtic have kept just one clean sheet in six. I see value in backing both teams to score in this game. This fixture has predominantly been filled with several goals, as just one of the last four has been with under 2.5 goals. Due to various factors, just one of the last five league matches for Celtic has been a low scoring game. Opting for more than 2.5 goals is my pick in the game.

Celtic Preview

The sign of a great team is the ability to bounce back quickly from a setback, and Celtic demonstrated the attribute in bucket loads during the impressive home win against Partick Thistle. Even though Alan Archibald’s team did not offer much of a resistance, Celtic will be relieved to put behind the heavy loss against Hearts and focus on setting a new unbeaten run. Even after conceding four against Hearts, Celtic still have the best defensive record by a significant margin, after letting in only 15 goals. Scott Sinclair is top of the scoring charts at Celtic with eight goals in 18.

Celtic Team News

Tom Rogic (knee) and Partick Roberts (thigh) are the players unavailable for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Aberdeen Preview

Aberdeen appeared to be completely behind the poor run of form, as Derek McInnes staying put at the club has once again brought stability. A run of three consecutive victories has already helped Aberdeen open up a significant advantage over teams outside the top three places. The team now has a whopping nine-point advantage over Hibernian in the fourth place, while the advantage over Rangers is much more modest at three points. After having struggled with games at the Pittodrie Stadium so far this season, Aberdeen have reasons to be elated after the 4-1 resounding victory over Hibernian. In the form table, Aberdeen have picked up more points than Celtic over the last six matches. Adam Rooney is the top scorer at Aberdeen with five goals in 17.

Aberdeen Team News

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes will be without Greg Tansey (groin) for the game.
