Celta Vigo vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Celta Vigo and Manchester United will square off at the Estadio de Balaidos on Thursday night for the second leg of their Europa League Semi-finals tie, with both sides looking to get back to winning ways. Celta Vigo lost 0-3 at home at the hands of Athletic Bilbao last time out in La Liga, in a game in which they failed to deliver a single shot on target. On the flip side, Manchester United were held to a 1-1 home draw by Swansea in the Premier League last weekend, although they had the lead at halftime thanks to a goal from Wayne Rooney. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although that United are lacking a winning mentality at the moment, I’m still backing them to secure at least a draw here, as Celta Vigo have been awful on home soil over the past month, losing four of their last six home fixtures across all competitions. I’m not fancying goals at both ends of the pitch here, as Celta have failed to score in three of their last four home competitive fixtures, while Manchester United’s last three away games have seen few than two three scored.

Celta Vigo Preview

Celta Vigo have endured a disappointing run of form recently, having won just two of their last eight games across all competitions, while losing five in the process. They enter the fray on the back of a four-game winless streak across all competitions, including a 1-1 away draw at Genk in the 2nd leg of their Europa League quarter-finals tie a fortnight ago. The good news is that the Spaniards are undefeated in their last five European fixtures, winning four and drawing once in this term. The bad news is that OS Celestes have only kept a clean sheet in six Europa League home games this season. However, their recent home form hasn’t been that good, as Celta have lost four of their last six home fixtures across all competitions, scoring none in this term. Regarding their La Liga campaign, Celta Vigo find themselves only in 11th position in the standings, already 18 points of the European places. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Celta’s main issue throughout the season as they hold one of the worst defensive records in the division, conceding 57 goals in 34 league fixtures. Iago Aspas has been Celta’s most dangerous player in front of goal throughout this La Liga campaign, as he is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 17 goals in his 29 league appearances. In addition, the 29-year-old striker has also helped the team with five goals throughout this Europa League campaign.

Manchester United Preview

Manchester United’s mixed run of form in the Premier League continued last weekend as they only managed a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Swansea. This means that they still sit in 5th spot in the Premier League table with 65 points under their belts after 34 rounds, one point of the 4th-placed Manchester City. The Red Devils have only scored 51 goals in 34 league outings this season, but their back line has been impressive in this term. They have only conceded 25 goals this season, which is the second best defensive record in the division. United’s main issue throughout their Premier League campaign is that they have recorded too many draws. They are currently on a 25-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, but 12 of these have been draws. Away from home, Manchester United have only lost twice in their last 15 away games across all competitions, and are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak. In addition, Jose Mourinho’s men are unbeaten in their last six Europa League away fixtures, averaging exactly a goal per game. This is Manchester United’s first semi-final in the UEFA Cup or Europa League, and they will be looking to lift the only major trophy missing from their cabinet.
