Celta Vigo vs Genk Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Genk will be aiming to continue their good run of form across all competitions when they travel to the Estadio de Balaidos to take on Celta Vigo on Thursday night for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-finals tie. Celta Vigo lost 0-2 at home at the hands of Eibar last time out in La Liga, with Eduardo Berizzo conceding a goal in each half. Meanwhile, Genk managed a narrow 0-1 victory on the road at KSV Roeselare at the weekend in group B of the Belgian Europa League play-offs. Substitute Jose Naranjo scored the winner with just six minutes to go. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Celta Vigo have been struggling for consistency over the past three months and have conceded at least once in seven of their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. Meanwhile, Genk have scored at least two goals in four of their last six competitive games. I’m going with a home win here, but I’m also backing Genk to get on the scoresheet as they have enjoyed an impressive run of form recently.

Celta Vigo Preview

Celta Vigo were on a three-game winning streak across all competitions between the middle of March to the beginning of April, but they enter the fray on the back of two consecutive defeats at the hands of Valencia and Eibar in their most recent two league fixtures. Due to their recent struggle, Celta are now only in 10th spot in the La Liga table with 41 points under their belts after 30 rounds, already nine points off the European places. Celta had problems at the back over the past two weeks, having conceded at least two goals in each of their last two La Liga games. Actually, keeping the ball out of their own net has been Celta’s main issue throughout this La Liga campaign, as they hold the worst defensive record in top ten with 51 goals conceded in 30 league outings. The good news is that Os Celestes looked decent going forward in this term, as they managed a decent tally of 45 goals in 30 rounds. Iago Aspas, who started on the bench against Eibar, is the club’s topscorer with 16 goals in his 28 league appearances. Their recent home form has been a complete mixed bag, as Celta have recorded three defeats, four victories and three draws in their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. They also struggled for fluency at home throughout this Europa League campaign, but they managed to pick up 0-2 victories in their last three away games in the competition.

Genk Preview

On the contrary, Genk have enjoyed an impressive run of form recently as they come into this clash on the back of a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. The Belgians looked very solid at both ends of the pitch during this run, having scored 17 goals while conceding just four. Overall, Genk have only lost once in their last 13 games across all competitions. Genk made a perfect start into the group B of the Belgian Europa League play-offs, having won their opening two fixtures without conceding a single goal in the process. Genk’s recent away form has been impeccable as they have won the last three away games across all competitions, conceding just two goals in this term. Furthermore, the Belgians are undefeated in their last three away games in Europe and have scored at least twice in each of their last seven continental away European fixtures this season. The bad news is that Genk hold an awful head-to-head record against Spanish opponents, having won just once in their eight meetings. Leon Bailey and Kalifa Coulibaly have been Genk’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this Europa League campaign, as the pair bagged eight goals and three assists between them.
