Cardiff City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) live SKYTV game promises to be a cracker as it features the top two sides in the division.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Cardiff saw their eight-game winning run come to an end last time out as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Sheffield United.  Anthony Pilkington was the star rescuing them a point in injury-time that their performance probably did not deserve when looking at the expected goals data.

Wolves were also held last time out battling to a 2-2 draw home draw with struggling Hull City.  Diogo Jota put them ahead from the penalty spot but they needed an 83rd minute Oskar Buur goal to secure a point.

The reverse fixture came in mid-August and the Welsh side won that one 2-1 thanks to a goal each from Joe Ralls and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.  Leo Bonatini had netted for the Black Country outfit who have lost four of their five against the Bluebirds.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given they are at home and have already beaten Wolves this season I am surprised to see Cardiff as the outsiders here.  Granted the visitors are tough opponents but they have lost at Villa and Fulham in recent times and the Welsh side are just as good if not better than these sides so should be taken with the safety of the draw no bet.

Callum Paterson has found the net in four of his last five and although he blanked in midweek I still think he looks the value call here to net at any time.

Cardiff City Preview

The Bluebirds might have drawn last time out but they are still unbeaten in their last 13 league games.  If Fulham were to win all their last six (which does not look that absurd) then they would need four more wins (from seven) to be certain of a top two finish.

At the Cardiff City Stadium, no side has won more home games than the Welsh outfit and they have won each of their last eight.  Their defence in front of their own fans is the best in the league while they have the third best ranked home attack.

Each of the last five Championship fixtures they have had have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Callum Paterson blanked last time out but scored in the four prior to that one.

Cardiff City Team News

Jazz Richards (severe bruising), Joe Ralls and Danny Ward (both knee) are all doubts.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

The Black Country saw their three-game winning run come to an end in midweek with a draw that sees the gap between these sides remain at eight.  Wanderers need eight points from their six remaining fixtures to be certain of automatic promotion.

Away from Molienux, they have won just two of their last five and three of their last seven losing at both Villa and Fulham.  Only Fulham (34) have scored more away goals than the Midlands outfit (30) and they have the best road defence.

Four of the last five Wolves have played in the league and seven of the last ten have seen both teams find the back of the net.   They have been behind going into the break on just three occasion this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Matt Doherty and Rueben Neves will return after suspension. Bright Enobakhare (unknown), Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts.  Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia.
