Cardiff City vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Cardiff City’s poor away form extended even further with the team losing 3-1 against West Ham in the midweek action. Goals from Lucas Perez (2) and Michail Antonio were able to handle a comfortable lead for Cardiff, who did secure a consolation in the fifth minute of injury time through Josh Murphy. Southampton’s new boss Ralph Hasenhüttl got off to a poor start with his team losing 3-1 against Tottenham at the Wembley Stadium. Harry Kane’s early opener along with second-half goals from Lucas Mora and Son Heung-Min were able to put Spurs in a commanding position, but Charlie Austin scored the first goal for Southampton in Hasenhüttl’s era.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cardiff will be enjoying the support of fans, who have certainly responded to the improved performances from the team. Southampton will be quite happy with a stalemate after having witnessed a tremendous run of results at the Cardiff City Stadium in the last few games. The Welsh outfit have picked up three wins in the last four home games, while Southampton have lost four away games on the bounce. Even if Southampton make a positive start, the brilliant support enjoyed by Cardiff in recent home matches is likely to see them through to a win.

The recent eight matches at the Cardiff City Stadium have witnessed over 2.5 goals in seven matches. This is due to a combination of poor defence for the home team along with a strong fighting spirit. Southampton conceded three against Spurs and they are not expected to be in a great frame of mind at the back. I would opt for over 2.5 goals in the game.

Cardiff City Preview

Neil Warnock can be placed with the recent turnaround of performances from his Cardiff City team, as they have been able to get six points from the last four league matches. They have helped Cardiff move out of the bottom three. Cardiff have been getting most of their points from their home matches – 10 out of 11 points achieved with the club this season have come on the Welsh soil. Cardiff have also been heavily dependent on home games in order to score goals, as they have come up with only three away goals in the 2018-19 season.

Cardiff City Team News

Neil Warnock will be without Kenneth Zohore (calf) and Ashley Richards (hamstring) due to injuries.

Southampton Preview

Southampton were able to take little positives from the recent game against Tottenham, but manager Ralph Hasenhüttl will be aware that the club may not be able to survive with points from games against the top teams. Instead, the home matches against teams in the bottom of the table will be key for Southampton. The upcoming matches against Cardiff, Huddersfield, and West Ham will be the target for Hasenhüttl in forthcoming weeks. At the same time, the Saints have to overcome a nine-game winless run in order to move off the bottom three.

Southampton Team News

Danny Ings (hamstring), Ryan Bertrand (back), Shane Long (ankle), Sam Gallagher (hamstring), and Michael Obafemi (hamstring) are unavailable for Hasenhüttl.
