Cardiff City vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game from the Cardiff City Stadium features two sides who have made strong starts to the season.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Cardiff are the early Championship pace-setters and saw off Wolves 2-1 last time out at Molineux thanks to a goal each from Joe Ralls and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. In the League Cup, it was a first defeat of the season for the Bluebirds as they 2-1 at home to Burton despite a goal from Anthony Pilkington.

QPR secured their second league success of the season as they defeated Hull 2-1 in their last league game with a goal each from Matt Smith and Idrissa Sylla. In midweek, they suffered a disappointing 4-1 home loss to Brentford in the League Cup with a goal from Darnell Furlong a mere consolation

Last season it was the London side who came out on top taking the game at Loftus Road 2-1 and the one at the Cardiff City Stadium which ended 2-0.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cardiff are far too short a price to be taken here and I think the London side need backing the draw/victory double chance market. They have already got a draw at Wednesday and were unlucky to get nothing from a trip to Norwich. Holloway made sweeping changes to his side in midweek which while getting him criticism at the time may seem like a sensible tactic come the end of the weekend.

I have taken Luke Freeman a few times to get among the goals but no joy yet despite the shots data showing he is hitting the target for QPR, at larger prices he looks worth another play in the scorer markets.

Cardiff City Preview

Four wins from four league games has been a great start to the season for the Welsh side who sat top of the provisional Championship table. After this game, they have seven in a row against sides who featured in the top-half betting for the season which will be a test of their credentials.

At home, it has been two wins from two league games though they did lose in front of their own fans in the League Cup in midweek.  It has been two clean sheets at the Cardiff City Stadium for the Bluebirds who if you go back to last season have shipped just eight in their last 13 home matches.

Nathaniel Mednez-Laing has adjusted well to the Championship following his move from Rochdale netting four league goals. Just two of their eight league goals this season have come in the first 45 minutes.

Cardiff City Team News

Frederic Gounongbe (hip) is a doubt as is Lee Camp (knee). Three players ruled out are Callum Paterson (cruciate), Kadeem Harris (ankle) and Rhys Healey (cruciate).

Queens Park Rangers Preview

From their four league games, so far, this season QPR have taken seven points with two wins, one draw and the solitary defeat. After this game, they have a run of four fixtures from which they will expect to perform well from.

On the road, it is nine matches without victory though they did manage a draw at Hilsborough earlier in the season. An issue for the Rs on their travels has been a lack of goals with just three netted in their last eight.

The five league goals the London outfit have netted this season have been shared around with three players scoring one each and Conor Washington having two. Each of their four fixtures so has produced a total of exactly two or three goals.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Joel Lynch (hamstring), Steven Caulker (hip) and Yeni N’Gbakoto (head) are all listed day-to-day while James Perch (knee), Grant Hall (tendon) and Jordan Cousins (hamstring) are all ruled out of this one.
