Cardiff City vs Millwall Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides at opposite ends at of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Cardiff picked up an excellent three points on the road as they won 1-0 at Middlesbrough. Joe Ralls was the hero as he converted an 84th minute penalty to give the Bluebirds a victory that the expected goals data suggested was just about deserved. Millwall put behind them a two-game undefeated streak to defeat Birmingham at the Den 2-0 last time out. They took the lead through a Maxime Colin own-goal and wrapped up the three points through Ryan Tunnicliffe. The last time these two sides met came in April 2015 in a game that ended in a draw and in fact eight of their last 15 head-to-head meetings have ended aal-square and two of their last three in Wales.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cardiff are a strong home outfit and should win this against a Millwall side without a victory on the road this season. The price is probably too short to be backing alone so look to find some way to increase this. I like the idea of the Draw HT/ Cardiff FT as the Lions have been tied in eight of their 13 so far at the interval while just 33% of the goals the Bluebirds have scored have come in the first-half. I think the hosts class will tell in the end so this looks a sensible play. This also brings in the home team to score their most goals in the second-half and with over two-thirds of their goals coming in the final 45 minutes this looks a sensible way to play this fixture.

Cardiff City Preview

Victory last time out put to an end a mini slump of two without a victory but overall the Bluebirds form is strong with three victories in their last five. They sit in second place in the league two behind leaders Wolves and have established themselves as a legitimate threat for promotion. At the Cardiff City Stadium, their form has been strong with four victories, two draws and no defeat from their six games. They are one of five sides tied for the best home defensive record in the division with just three goals conceded. Cardiff are a strong defensive side with just ten goals shipped this season which is the best record in the Championship. Their matches tend to be low scoring with an average of just 2.15 goals per fixture and seven of 13 going under 2.5 goals.

Cardiff City Team News

Frederic Gounongbe (hip) is listed day-to-day while Aron Gunnarsson, Lee Camp (groin), Ashley Richards and Kadeem Harris (ankle) are out as is Rhys Healey (cruciate).

Millwall Preview

It has been a mixed bag recently for the Lions with two victories, one draw and two defeats from their last five. This explains why the sit in the middle third of the table and were 15th going into the weekend with 16 points from 13 games. Away from the Den, they have yet to record a victory in six though they have drawn three of these. A lack of road goals has been a huge problem having netted just two all season and failing to fire in five of six. No side have been level at half-time more than Millwall who have been all-square in eight of their 13 in the league. Around 63% of their goals have come in the second-half with 50% in the 15 minutes just after the break and just before the end of the game.

Millwall Team News

They have no registered injuries or suspensions.
