Cardiff City vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship fixture features two sides hoping for promotion to the Premier League. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Cardiff beat Bolton 2-0 in midweek to keep pressure on the sides above them as they sit in fourth place. Armand Traore and Sean Morrison both netted before-half time to make sure it was a comfortable evening for the Bluebirds. Middlesbrough won their last game 2-1 as they defeated Reading to keep alive their promotion hopes. Adama Traore netted a brace either side of half-time for the Teesiders on that occasion. The reverse fixture came in October in the North-East and the visitors won on that occasion coming out on top 1-0. Joe Ralls netted a penalty to secure the three points for the Welsh side.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer here as Cardiff are strong at home while Middlesbrough are showing some good signs on the road to perhaps suggest that they are suited to playing away under Tony Pulis. It is probably best to look somewhere other than the full-time result maket for the value. In three of their last four at home the Bluebirds have netted two or more while Boro have netted two or more on the road in three of their last four so I think the game to have over 2.5 goals makes sense while a small stake on over 3.5 goals is a value call.

Cardiff City Preview

A run of five without defeat for the Bluebirds means they are right in the mix for the second automatic promotion spot. They are currently in fourth but are just one point Villa having played the same amount of games and are level with Derby and have a match in hand. At the Cardiff City Stadium, they have lost just twice all season though those defeats have come in their last four. The ten home goals they have conceded is along with Derby the best home defensive record in the division. The Cardiff defence has looked strong in recent weeks and have shipped just two goals in their last five fixtures. Sean Morrison and Junior Hoilett both have two goals in their last three appearances.

Cardiff City Team News

Jamie Ward (unknown), Danny Ward (knee), Aron Gunnarsson (ankle), Craig Bryson (Achilles) and Matt Connolly (muscle) are doubts.

Middlesbrough Preview

It has been a mixed bag of late for the Teesiders with two victories, one draw and two defeats from their last five. They sit in ninth place four points away from the top six and this is the only of their next seven to come against teams in the top eight. Away from the Riverside Stadium, they had struggled earlier in the season but have won three of their last four on the road. Only Fulham have scored more road goals than the 23 they have netted this season. Adama Traore is finding a new lease of life under Tony Pulis and has three goals in his last four in the league. 15 of the 29 league goals Middlesbrough have conceded this season have come in the first-half.
