Cardiff City vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Cardiff City were the latest to suffer an upset in the FA Cup third round with the team losing 1-0 to Gillingham. Just when it seemed that Cardiff were about to force a replay that would see the tie get to the Cardiff City Stadium, Elliot List came up with the winner in the 81st minute. Huddersfield Town’s disastrous form continued with the team going out of the FA Cup in the third round at the hands of Bristol City following a 1-0 defeat at the Oakwell Stadium. After a goalless first half, Huddersfield conceded in the 72nd minute when Jason Brownhill scored for the hosts.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Huddersfield cannot afford to lose a 10th consecutive match, as it would hand their relegation rivals Cardiff with a significant advantage at the start of the New Year. Yet, Huddersfield are very poor in terms of creating an impact in the final third of the pitch. Cardiff may have lost back-to-back home games, but the Cardiff City Stadium has provided 13 out of the 18 points picked up by Cardiff this season. I would back a win for the home team.

This is a match between two teams that have managed less than a goal per match this season. Cardiff have fared considerably well in terms of home games, but it is difficult to expect anything from Huddersfield going forward – even if Wagner’s men work extremely hard. I would opt for under 2.5 goals.

Cardiff City win – 13/10

Total goals under 2.5 – 8/15

Cardiff City have not conceded a goal in 70% of their last 10 games played against Huddersfield Town

Cardiff City Preview

Neil Warnock may be quite pleased with his team’s exit from the FA Cup since it gives Cardiff the opportunity to place more focus on the Premier League. The club has done relatively well in order to keep their heads above the relegation zone, but a return of just one victory in the last six matches is not sufficient to ease the nervousness amongst players. Cardiff remain a poor outfit when it comes to scoring goals after only managing 19 so far this season. Callum Paterson’s physical presence has been key in bringing the rest of the team into play, while players like Josh Murphy have produced the spark necessary to win matches even when the team has not played well.

Cardiff City Team News

Ashley Richards (hamstring), Matthew Connelly (illness), Harry Arter (knock), Daniel Ward (broken cheekbone), Victor Camarasa (knock), Kenneth Zohore (thigh), and Kadeem Harris (shoulder) are missing from action for Cardiff.

Huddersfield Town Preview

David Wagner is coming under a tremendous amount of pressure after watching his Huddersfield team slip to nine consecutive defeats in all competitions. The latest defeat – a 1-0 away loss against Bristol in the FA Cup – is especially damaging to the club’s moral and confidence levels. The January transfer window can only bring hope to Huddersfield, who have scored only 13 goals this season. The arrival of Jason Puncheon on a loan deal from Crystal Palace is a significant boost for the team.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Tom Smith (hamstring), Daniel Williams (knee), Aaron Mooy (ligament), and Abdelhamid Sabiri (broken collarbone) are unavailable for Huddersfield.
