Cardiff City vs Burnley Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Cardiff City took another thrashing as they were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City during the weekend. Despite defending with great numbers, Cardiff were 3-0 down by half time after goals from Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, and Gundogan. Manchester City’s summer signing Riyad Mahrez added a brace in the second half to make yet another painful defeat for Warnock’s men. Burnley picked up the first win of the campaign in style after beating Bournemouth 4-0 at home. Matej Vydra, Aaron Lennon, and Ashley Barnes (2) were on the scoresheet for Bournemouth, who went on to lose 2-1 against Burton Albion in the League Cup.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Burnley may have picked up a huge win during the weekend, but it is a tough task to expect the Clarets to get an away victory – after managing a return of one point from a possible nine on the road this season. Cardiff City’s confidence is rather low after the heavy defeat against Chelsea and Manchester City. Burnley may capitalise on the lower confidence levels to get a draw, which could be a positive result against a relegation rival.

The impact of Aaron Lennon and Johann Gudmundsson was quite profound in the win over Bournemouth. The pace of the duo could also be crucial in this away match, as Burnley will have more opportunities on the counter-attack. In the last four games, Cardiff have only failed to score only against the defending champions. I would back both teams to score.

Cardiff City Preview

Neil Warnock always expected Cardiff City to struggle for Premier League survival, but the task is turning out much harder than expected with the team unable to pick a victory in the first six games of the campaign. The confidence of the team goes lower with every weekend spent on the bottom three of the table and it has been quite apparent with the rise in bigger defeats for the club. Cardiff were not expected to get much out of the games against Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, but Warnock is the kind of a manager who wants his team to give 110% especially against the top clubs. The meagre return of three league goals highlights the problem for Cardiff going forward.

Cardiff City Team News

Warnock will be without Aron Gunnarsson (knee), Nathanial Mendez-Laing (knee), and Lee Peltier (shoulder) due to injuries.

Burnley Preview

The win over Bournemouth was akin to a London bus situation for Burnley, who happened to score with every attack. It is remarkable that four out of the seven league goals scored by Burnley have come in a single game, but that match could provide a template for things to come. Aaron Lennon came up with one of his best performances in a Burnley shirt, while Sean Dyche will be hopeful of seeing more impact from summer signings like Vydra. The exit from the League Cup may actually do Burnley a lot of good, as the season has been hampered due to a large number of Europa League games.

Burnley Team News

Nick Pope (shoulder) and Ben Gibson (hernia) are unavailable for the Clarets.
