Cardiff City vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides in the top-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Cardiff will be aiming to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat away to Bristol City in their last fixture before the international break. Omar Bogle netted to put the Bluebirds level only to be sent-off 14 minutes later and the ten-men could not hold on for a point. Brentford continued their recent good run as they defeated Leeds 3-1 to win their third straight game. Neal Maupay put them in the lead but they seemed headed for a draw until two goals in the final five minutes from Yoann Barbet and Ryan Woods saw the Bees wrap up all three points. The meetings between this pair last season saw the Welsh side come out on top taking four points from the two matches. The game at the Cardiff City Stadium was won by the home side 2-1 while the tie at Griffin Park ended in a 2-2 draw.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer here. Some might be tempted by the away team giving their form but Cardiff have still not lost at home this season while none of the Bees away victories this season have come against a top-half side. Both these teams have scored around two-thirds of their goals in the second-half so this leads to a little interest on the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring and and YES both teams will score during this period.

Second-half to be the highest scoring half

YES both teams to score in second-half.

Cardiff City Preview

It has been a strong start to the season for the Bluebirds who sit in third place after a third of the season with 31 points from 16 games. It has been a mixed bag in recent times with two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six. At the Cardiff City Stadium, they remain undefeated with five victories and three draws from their eight played so far. Those three draws those have come in their last five with two of them being goalless. Their 22 goals scored has them in mid-table for attacking talent and they need Junior Hoilett (just one in the last six) and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (none in the last 12) to find their early season form. The defence has looked strong though with the 13 they have conceded a joint best in the division.

Cardiff City Team News

Omar Bogle will miss out through suspension while Aron Gunnarsson, Kenneth Zohore (both ankle), Joe Bennett (calf), Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (leg), Ashley Richards, Kadeem Harris (both ankle), Lee Camp (groin) and Rhys Healey (cruciate) are all doubts.

Brentford Preview

After a slow start to the season the Bees are flying with no defeat in their last nine in the league with victories in each of their last three. This fixture is the only one of their next six that comes against a team in the top-half of the division. Away from Griffin Park, they have won each of their last three matches and are unbeaten in their last four. They have netted ten times in their last four on the road while conceding just four times. The 25 goals they have scored is the joint fifth best attacking record in the division and is led by Ollie Watkins with six goals and Neal Maupay with five. The defence has conceded 21 which is a bottom-half record but in their last five they have managed to keep two clean-sheets.

Brentford Team News

Andreas Bjellans (head) is a doubt while Rico Henry (knee) and Alan Judge (leg) are unlikely to play any part in this game.
