Cardiff City vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture will have an impact on both ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Cardiff made it five straight victories when they defeated Barnsley 2-1 in Wales on Tuesday night. The Bluebirds had a goal each from Callum Paterson and Marko Gruji to thank for them wrapping up all three points. Birmingham suffered defeat in their first game in charge for Gary Monk as they lost 1-0 at home to Middlesbrough. It was clear the effort and commitment was there from the Blues but they need someone to hit form in front of goal soon. The reverse fixture came in mid-October in the Midlands and the home side won that 1-0 thanks to a Che Adams goal. It stretches their unbeaten head-to-head record to five though three of these have finished all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cardiff are too short to be backed for victory at these prices so if you want to get with them you need to find ways to enhance the price. The Bluebirds to win and both teams to score to nil might be an option given they have the best home defence in the division and Birmingham are not firing up top. The Blues have been behind at half-time in their last four, the Welsh side have been ahead at half-time in three of their last four at the break so back the hosts to be ahead at half-time and the Cardiff-Cardiff result in the half-time/full-time market.

Cardiff City Preview

It is now nine league matches undefeated for the Bluebirds and victories in their last five means the Welsh side are closing in on Wolves at the top. They do have a tricky run ahead though with five of their next seven against teams in the top ten. At the Cardiff City Stadium, it is five straight victories with ten goals netted and just one conceded. Their 11 goals conceded at their own ground is the best home defensive record in the league. Cardiff have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five in the Championship and six of their last nine. Kenneth Zohore blanked in midweek but saw a lot of the ball and has two in his last three.

Cardiff City Team News

Armand Traore (thigh), Jazz Richards (severe bruising), Sean Morrison, Jamie Ward (both groin), Danny Ward (knee), Lee Peltier (unknown) and Aron Gunnarsson (ankle) are all doubts.

Birmingham City Preview

It is now six straight defeats for the Blues and Gary Monk faces a tough job in trying to keep the Blues up. They are in 22nd place though after this just one of their next four opponents are in the top-half. Away from St Andrew’s, they have lost three straight conceding nine goals in the process and netting just once. They have both the second worst road attacking record and road defensive record. The last eight meetings between Birmingham and Cardiff have produced a total of just nine goals. When Gary Monk was manager of Middlesbrough his side faced the Bluebirds and lost that game 1-0.

Birmingham City Team News

Isaac Vassell (cruciate), David Davis (knee) and Jonathan Grounds (medial collateral ligament) are long-term absentees.
