Cardiff City vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides who will be looking to finish in the top six this season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Cardiff started the season with a victory as they defeated Burton 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium. They had Kenneth Zohore to thank for all three point as he struck the decisive goal. Aston Villa started their season with a 1-1 draw against recently relegated Hull City. They started well and Gabriel Agbonlahor gave them the lead only to be pegged back by Hull in the 62nd minute and that was the end of the scoring. It was honours even in their meetings last season the Bluebirds winning their home game 1-0 and Villa winning at their ground 3-1. It continues a general head-to-head trend with none of the last 13 being won by the road side.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Cardiff look a little bit of value here given their strong home league form and the poor away recent record of Villa in the Championship. The draw is a real player so I will secure that by taking the safety of the draw no bet but I could not put anyone off the slightly bigger price on offer on a straight Cardiff victory. I like the price on offer on Sol Bamba in the goalscorer markets as he is a target at set-pieces and could have some joy here against a Villa defence that is not as strong in the air as you would expect from a team coached by Steve Bruce.

Cardiff draw no bet

Sol Bamba, first goalscorer, each-way unlimited places

Cardiff City saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Aston Villa have not conceded a goal in 70% of their last 10 games played

Cardiff City Preview

A defeat at home to Newcastle in their final home game of last season put to an end a run of four straight victories in front of their own fans and six without defeat. Neil Warnock makes his side tough to beat at home and tough to score against shipping just eight goals in their last 11 at their own ground. Their win last time out against Burton seemed deserved as they dominated the shots statistics and also impressed in aerial duels. The attacking players combined for a lot of shots on goal but one player to note was Sol Bamba with the centre-back registering two attempts on target. In the League Cup, they needed extra-time to see off League-One outfit Portsmouth after going behind to a 32nd minute Sean Morrison own-goal. They fought back through Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and then won in the game in extra time thanks to Greg Halford.

Cardiff City Team News

Frederic Gounongbe (hip) is listed day-to-day while Lee Camp (knee) is out for an unknown period of time. Three players out for a while are Callum Paterson (cruciate), Kadeem Harris (ankle) and Rhys Healey (also cruciate).

Aston Villa Preview

Away from home, Villa struggled last season winning just three of their last 16 games and four over the whole season. A major factor in this was lack of goals with the Midlands side scoring the lowest in the league with even Rotherham scoring more. Villa probably should have been ahead in the game after missing some chances before Hull staged a fight back. One interesting thing to note from that game is that Henri Lansbury saw a lot of the ball and registered four shots although he did not bring his shooting boots as only one of them was on target. In midweek, Aston Villa went to Colchester and proved victorious coming out on top 2-1 thanks to an early goal from Scott Hogan and a Frankie Kent own-goal.

Aston Villa Team News

Jack Grealish (hip), Jonathan Kodjia (broken ankle) and Mile Jedinak (groin) are out for a few weeks.
