Cameroon vs Chile Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

African Cup of Nations winners Cameroon will take on the Copa America winners Chile on Sunday evening in the first group A fixture of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017. Cameroon managed to beat Morocco 1-0 at home in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying three days ago thanks to a first-half goal from Vincent Aboubakar. Meanwhile, Chile were held to a 1-1 home draw by Russia in a friendly fixture a week ago, and they still have to play another friendly against Romania before this clash with Cameroon. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m backing Chile to grab all three points here as they have a much better squad than Cameroon. However, I’m not expecting an entertaining affair as Cameroon proved to be a tough nut to crack over the past year.

Chile to win at 8/11

Under 2.5 goals at 8/11

Cameroon saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Cameroon have conceeded only 2 goals in their last 1 games against Chile

Chile are undefeated in all of their last 1 games against Cameroon

Cameroon Preview

Cameroon’s form over the past year has been near impeccable as they have only lost once in their last 16 games across all competitions. That sole defeat came at the hands of Guinea in a friendly fixture towards the end of March, but Cameroon bounced back with a narrow 1-0 home win over Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying three days ago. This puts them in second spot in the group B table tied on three points with Malawi. The Indomitable Lions looked very good at the back over the past five months, keeping a clean sheet in five of their last seven games across all competitions. Cameroon aren’t favorites to win this FIFA Confederations Cup group B as they have been drawn with Chile, Australia and World Cup 2014 winners Germany. They have a young squad with talented players in the shape of Lorient’s striker Benjamin Moukandjo and Metz’s midfielder Georges Mandjeck. Their most dangerous player is Besiktas’s striker Vincent Aboubakar, who recently scored the winner against Morocco. These two sides last met in 1998 in a World Cup qualifier and the game ended as a 1-1 draw.

Cameroon Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Cameroon ahead of this clash.

Chile Preview

Chile, on the flip side, have only lost once in their last nine games across all competitions, and come into this tie on the back of a three-game unbeaten streak. Everything has changed for Chile since Juan Antonio Pizzi replaced Jorge Sampaoli last year and build on his Copa America title by lifting the trophy again. Chile beat Venezuela 3-1 at home in their South America: World Cup qualifying campaign and followed this up with a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso and a 1-1 draw against Russia in their most recent two friendlies. Furthermore, Chile need to play another friendly game against Romania on Tuesday night before their clash with Cameroon. Chile find themselves only in 4th position in their World Cup qualifying group table tied on 23 points with the 3rd-placed Uruguay, just one point of the 2nd-placed Colombia. Chile looked very good going forward over the past seven months, scoring at least two goals in four of their last seven games across all competitions. The bad news is that Chile haven’t been at their best on the road over the past months, winning just once in their last six away games across all competitions.

Chile Team News

Alexis Sanchez will lead the attacking line, while Arturo Vidal and Aranguiz will feature in midfield.
