Cameroon vs Australia Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Cameroon and Australia will square off at the Stadion Krestovskyi in St. Petersburg on Thursday afternoon, with both sides looking for their first points in the Confederations Cup 2017 group B. Cameroon were beaten 0-2 by Chile in the opening round, with Hugo Broos’ men conceding both goals within the last ten minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Australia suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat at the hands of the World Cup 2014 Champions, Germany. Tom Rogic and Tomi Juric scored Australia’s goals, but it wasn’t enough for them to secure a positive result. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Cameroon are yet to score at this tournament, but I think they have enough firepower within their squad to find the back of the net against an Australia side who conceded three goals against Germany. I’m expecting an entertaining affair with goals at both ends of the field.

Cameroon Preview

Cameroon’s recent form hasn’t been very good as they have lost three of their last four games across all competitions. Their sole victory in this term was a 1-0 home triumph over Morocco in the opening round of the African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign a fortnight ago. They head into this clash on the back of two consecutive defeats, including a 0-2 loss at the hands of Chile in the opening round of their FIFA Confederations Cup adventure. The most worrying fact is that they failed to score a single goal in their most recent two fixtures. Coach Hugo Broos was proud of his team despite Cameroon slipping to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chile, as he said that they are improving gradually. This means that Cameroon have no points to their name after the first round and are in the same boat with their Thursday’s opponents, Australia. The African champions have also struggled to keep the ball out of their own net recently, as they conceded at least two goals in three of their last four games across all competitions. Actually, they had defensive problems at the last two World Cups, conceding in each of their six group games.

Cameroon Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Cameroon ahead of this clash.

Australia Preview

After they were thrashed 0-4 by Brazil in a friendly fixture before the Confederations Cup, Australia kicked off the tournament with another defeat as they lost 2-3 at the hands of Germany on Monday. Although Germany are with a young and inexperienced squad at this event, Australia showed great fighting spirit by scoring two goals. Prior to the recent defeats, Australia were on an eight-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. Australia have no points to their name in the group B table, which means that they are in dire need of a victory here in order to stand a chance to qualify further in the competition. Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Australia, as they managed to find the back of the net in 14 of their last 15 games across all competitions. The main issue is that the Socceroos have conceded nine goals in their most recent three games across all competitions. Tom Rogic and Tomi Juric are Australia’s joint topscorers so far at this tournament, as both got on the scoresheet against Germany. Meanwhile, their veteran striker Tim Cahill has only played four minutes against Germany.

Australia Team News

Tim Cahill is the only surviving member of the squad from Australia’s last Confederations Cup appearance in 2005, while Jamie Maclaren has been recalled to the squad.
