Cagliari vs Genoa Match Prediction

By William Hall

Two of Serie A's early strugglers go head to head this weekend as Cagliari welcome Genoa to the Sardegna Arena on Sunday. Cagliari come into this one having lost all three of their previous games, most recently being smashed 3-0 away to Napoli. Genoa are still looking for their first win of the season after picking up two points from two draws so far this campaign. With both teams looking for a much-needed win, this could be a tight and scrappy encounter. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

With both sides out of form coming into this one, I can't see this being one of the more entertaining games this weekend. However, for these two it is a massive game in their season. Genoa will be desperate to get three points on the board for the first time this season after a run of horrible results. However, with the away form they have had stretching right back into the last couple of seasons, it makes me feel they will struggle once again this weekend. Cagliari comes into this off the back of a few bad results, but before that, they were playing well putting back to back wins together over Crotone and SPAL. They will see this as a great chance to get back to winning ways this weekend being the home team should work in their favour. Over the years, whenever these two have played they tend to be goals involved, and with the two sides looking poor defensively, we could be in for some more of the same this weekend. Here are my favourite betting tips and predictions for the game this weekend.

Cagliari Preview

Cagliari have been having a very tough time of late, losing all of their last three games which has seen them slip down to 14th in Serie A. The latest defeat came away to Napoli which was a game they were expected to get beat. However, before that, they saw back to back losses to Sassuolo and Chievo which are two games they would have been expected to at least get a draw from. Cagliari have struggled in front of goal this season, managing to hit the back of opponents nets on just four occasions. With the side also struggling to stop goals at the other end, it is making them an easy target for a lot of teams in the league. In general, Cagliari tend to pick up the majority of their points on home soil and will be hoping to make that happen again this weekend.

Cagliari Team News

Six players look as if they are going to miss the visit of Genoa with Alessio Gragno (thigh injury), Federico Melchiorri (knee injury), Marco Sau (thigh injury), Pancrazio Farago (ankle injury), Andrea Cossu (groin injury) and Pinheiro Rafael de Andrade (wrist injury) all recovering from injuries. Gabriel could make a return for the home side this season as the player is back in training after recovering from a knee injury.

Genoa Preview

Genoa are having a shocking season so far, picking up just two points in seven games, scoring five and conceding eleven. It's not like the side have not been giving every game ago, losing all of their games so far by just one goal bar one game. They just need to be able to start holding out games rather than giving their opponents opportunities to firstly get back into games then go on to win. Not just this season, but in general Genoa's away form is nothing short of awful winning just two in their last 20 matches on the road. However, they will need to put a change to that this season if they are to stay in the league come the end of the season because so far this season they have been unable to do the business at home also. 16-year-old Pietro Pellegri looks like the only real threat for the away side this weekend with two goals in just four games. He looks as if he will be important for Genoa this season.

Genoa Team News

Genoa have two players who look as if they will miss the game with David Biraschi (foot injury) and Nicolas Federico Spolli (knee injury) both still out of training. However, Gianluca Lapadula is back in training for the side after recovering from a knee injury.
