Cagliari vs ChievoVerona Match Prediction

By William Hall

Serie A sees 11th take on 12th this weekend as Cagliari welcome Chievo to the Sardegna Arena. Both sides have had slow starts to the season but will both look at this game and feel it's one they can get all three points. Cagliari lost their last match 1-0 at home to Sassuolo as Chievo were able to scrape a point away to Genoa. With both Cagliari and Chievo struggling to score goals at this early stage, I can't see this being the most entertaining fixture of the weekend. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cagliari will come into this game with the more confidence after their two wins in the last three matches. However, Chievo are also unbeaten in two, even if they were both draws. Although it is early in the season, both sides will want to get the better of one another to jump up the league table.

Chievo have had the better f this fixture over the last few seasons, winning four of the last five meetings. However, that one meeting that Cagliari came out on top was the more recent fixture at the end of the last season as they ran out 4-0 winners. Bar that shock result; it has always been a close game between these two sides which not many goals. If that is anything to go by this weekend, there will be under 2.5 goals. Cagliari tend to be pretty solid at home in Serie A, and that has shown, winning five of their last six games at the Sardegna Arena.

Cagliari Preview

Cagliari had a very tough start to the season as they had to face Juventus and AC Milan in their first two games. The hard start proved as the side slumped to two straight defeats. However, since then Cagliari have managed two wins in three games, beating Crotone and SPAL but losing at home to Sassuolo in their most recent match. For long periods of the match, it seemed Cagliari were going to make it three wins out of three, but a rash tackle just before the 60th minute gave Sassuolo a penalty which was coolly taken. That goal proved the difference on the day, but a reaction from Cagliari will defiantly be in the script this weekend.

Cagliari Team News

Cagliari have a handful of players out this weekend with Federico Melchiorri (ACL), Gabriel (knee injury), Leonardo Pavoletti (muscle injury), Gregory can der Wiel (unknown) and Pinheiro Andrade (wrist injury) all sidelined.

ChievoVerona Preview

Chievo started the season well with a 2-1 away win to Udinese but are yet to have a win since. They have had some tough games in the last few weeks including the likes of Lazio, Juventus and Atalanta which means you can't be too hard on them. But if they are to make up for dropped points in those games, they must win against the teams around them in the league, and they have the chance to do that this weekend. Goals haven't been a problem for Chievo this season, having scored in all but one of their first five games. It is keeping them out the other end which is proving a tricky task for the side having already conceded eight this season.

ChievoVerona Team News

Chievo have just the two players out with Massimo Gobbi (muscle injury) and Riccardo Meggiorini (ACL) both recovering from long term injuries.
