Burton Albion vs Sheffield United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) game features two sides who have had different starts to the Championship season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Burton put behind them an eight-match winless run iast time as they went to the Den and defeated Millwall 1-0. Marvin Sordell got the only goal of the game in which the Lions also had Jed Wallace controversially dismissed. Sheffield United bounced back into second place with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Hull in their last fixture before the international break. Leon Clarke was the hero of the hour as he stepped up and netted four times in the second-half to secure the points. The Brewers are unbeaten in the last four head-to-head meetings between the duo the last of which came in the 2015/16 season. Nigel Clough will go up against a Blades side he managed between October 2013 and May 2015.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Sheffield United look a good bet here given that they have four wins from eight on the road with three of these four defeats coming against sides in the top nine. The only other defeat was against QPR who regularly raise their game for the big teams. Burton in the meanwhile have lost each of their last four at home with Ipswich and Barnsley among the outfits to have won at the Pirelli Stadium recently. Given that the Brewers have conceded 14 goals from their last four home games and that the Blades are in the top third of divisional goalscorers backing the visitors to score over 1.5 goals also looks the way to play this game.

Burton Albion Preview

After 16 games into the season the Brewers sit just one point and one place above the relegation zone in 21st. Victory over Millwall put to an end a three-game losing run and was just their third success in the league this season. At the Pirelli Stadium, it has now been four straight defeats for Albion with 14 goals conceded in these ties and just three netted. Each of their last five and six of the last seven in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals. A weak defence has been their biggest issue this season as along with Sunderland they have conceded a league high 31 goals. They have netted the second lowest amount of goals this season with ten led by Marvin Sordell and Lloyd Dyer with two goals each.

Burton Albion Team News

Joe Mason (back), John Brayford and Will Miller (both hamstring) are doubts while Liam Boyce (cruciate) is out until the new year.

Sheffield United Preview

It has been a great start to the season for the Blades who were promoted from League One last season and after 16 games sit in second place. They are yet to draw a game having won 11 times and lost the other five. Away from Bramall Lane, it has been a mixed bag with four victories and four defeats from their eight matches. They started with two defeats on the road but in their next six have won four times and lost just two. They have scored 24 times this season which is the joint seventh best with Leon Clarke having netted eight and Billy Sharp six times. The 14 goals they have shipped is the third best record in the league.

Sheffield United Team News

Caolan Lavery (eye), George Baldock (hamstring) and Jamal Blackman (back) are all doubts while Kieron Freeman (dislocated kneecap) is ruled out.
