Burton Albion vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) Championship fixture features two sides struggling at the wrong end of the table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Burton were not in action at the weekend as they had already crashed out of the FA Cup at the previous stage. They will be looking to bounce back from a 6-0 hammering at Fulham last time in the league.

Reading were in FA Cup Fourth Round action going down 3-1 at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night with their only score coming three minutes from time and that was an own-goal. The Royals were last in Championship action on the 20th and they lost a home game that day 1-0 to Brentford.

The reverse fixture came on December 23rd at the Madejski Stadium and the Brewers won that game 2-1. Tom Flanagan and Tom Naylor netted for Albion on that occasion with Mo Barrow bagging for the Berkshire outfit

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite terrible home form I think Burton can be backed here with the safety blanket of the draw in the draw no bet market. The loan signing of Darren Bent can give them a presence going forward and they face a Royals side out of confidence and with no noted goal threat of their own. They look over-priced here considering that they have home advantage and these two sides are probably of similar ability.

The added presence of Darren Bent should also gave more space to midfielder Tom Naylor who netted in the reverse fixture. He has three in the last seven and looks worth an each-way interest in the first goalscorer markets.

Burton Albion Preview

Two straight league defeats and just four points from their last five means that Albion are bottom of the table. They have reasons for hope though as just two points separate the bottom five and just five points separate the bottom seven.

At the Pirelli Stadium, they have lost nine of their last ten in the league and taken just one point in these matches. Three of the last four and six of the last eight in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net and gone over 2.5 goals.

No side has shipped more goals in their last six Championship fixtures than Burton with 12 though six of these did come in one game. They have scored seven in the last six which puts them into the top-third for scorers in the division over this period.

Burton Albion Team News

Darren Bent will come into the side and offer a goal threat. Willie Miller (knee) and Liam Boyce (cruciate) are long-term absentees.

Reading Preview

The Royals are now eight without a victory in the league and have picked up just eight points during this process. They sit in 18th place and are now involved in a relegation battle with just four more points than Sunderland in 22nd.

Away from the Madejski Stadium, they have drawn the last two picking up points at Barnsley and Hull though are without a victory in the last four. None of the last four on their travels have gone over 2.5 goals though the four of them before that did.

A lack of goals has been a huge issue for Reading lately with no league goal in their last three and just one in their last five. Just eight of the 30 goals they have scored this season have come in the first-half.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) is closing in on a return while Joe Mendes, Sam Smith, Stephen Quinn (all knee), John Swift (hamstring), Paul McShane (groin) and Roy Beerens (back) are doubts. Jordan Obita is out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament problem.
