Burton Albion vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture will have implications on the relegation picture in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Burton suffered a defeat in their last match as they lost an FA Cup Third Round tie 1-0 at Birmingham. In the league, they defeated Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 on New Year’s Day thanks to a goal each from Lloyd Dyer, Tom Flanagan and Tom Naylor. QPR suffered a cup home loss as they went down 1-0 against the MK Dons at Loftus Road. Their last league fixture came on January 1st and saw them defeat promotion hopefuls Cardiff 2-1 with a goal each from Matt Smith and Paul Smyth. The reverse came in September in London and it ended in a goalless draw in a game that the home side on that day probably can consider themselves a little unlucky not to win as they dominated in terms of possession and chances.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having real trouble splitting these sides with both available at almost identical prices. I would lean to Burton but their poor home form is a concern while QPR are struggling on the road. I would recommend looking elsewhere then to find the bets. Neither side are blessed with goalscorers which is why I am guessing under 2.5 goals is such a strong favourite but at those prices overs looks the value call. Both sides are split 13/13 in this market for the season and in the case of Albion three of their last four are over so go with the value and take over 2.5 goals. Both these sides have scored around 60% of their goals in the second-half so backing the second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring looks the way to play this while I could not put anyone off backing the game to have a late goal.

Burton Albion Preview

Seven points from their four matches over the holiday period has helped the Brewers in their relegation battle. They are still 22nd but just four points separate the bottom six while they are just six behind their opponents here. At the Pirelli Stadium, they have lost just six of their last seven though they did manage a draw with Norwich last time. No side has shipped more goals in front of their own fans than the 27 they have conceded. Only Birmingham have scored a lower amount in the Championship than the 20 that Burton have netted. Three of their last four have gone over 2.5 goals and for the season it is an equal split of 13 apiece.

Burton Albion Team News

Matty Lund (illness) is a doubt while Liam Boyce (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

It was a mixed holiday period for QPR who won one, drew one and lost two from their four fixtures. They sit in 17th six above relegation and the pressure is starting to grow on boss Ian Holloway as fans are becoming disillusioned with the team. Away from Loftus Road, it has been a struggle this season with just one victory from their 13 games though five draws mean they have lost just seven of these. A lack of goals on the road is an issue with a joint-third lowest nine scored. Just one of the last five the Rs have played in all competitions has gone over 2.5 goals though over the season this is an even 13/13 split. Just 24 of the 64 goals they have been involved in (at both ends) this season have come in the first-half.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

James Perch (dislocated kneecap) is back in training while Alex Baptiste (unknown) is a doubt. Jamie Mackie (back surgery) is a long-term absentee.
