Burton Albion vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in different halves of the Championship table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Burton suffered another defeat this time going down 1-0 at the iPro Stadium against Derby last time out. They fought well but struggled to create any scoring chances and were undone by a goal nine minutes from time that cost them a point. Preston made it four games unbeaten as they defeated QPR 1-0 at Deepdale in their last match. They were helped by the visitors having a player sent-off in the 22nd minute (and again in injury-time) but had to wait for the 88th minute before a Jordan Hugill goal secured them three points. The two meetings between the pair last season saw North-End emerge on top with victory at the Pirelli Stadium and a draw at their own ground. All three goals scored in these fixtures came in the opening 45 minutes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Preston are the most likely winners of the game given the form that Burton are showing currently.  I could not put any off backing them but the price is just a little short for me given they have won just three road games this season. Eight of the last ten matches for the Brewers have been level at half-time while the Lillywhites have managed just two goals in their last eight before the interval which means backing the game to be a draw at half-time makes sense as does going 0-0 in the half-time correct score market.

Burton Albion Preview

The Brewers are now bottom of the Championship following a run of four without a victory and one win in 11 matches. They need to start picking up points and have a chance with three of their next five at their own ground. At the Pirelli Stadium, their form has been poor though and they have lost each of their last six games. They have shipped 23 goals in front of their own fans which with ten played is an average of over two per fixture. Just one of the last five for Albion has gone over 2.5 goals with two even going under 1.5 goals. It has been level at half-time in eight of their last ten with seven of these being goalless.

Burton Albion Team News

Lloyd Dyer and Will Miller (both hamstring) are doubts. Liam Boyce (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.

Preston North End Preview

It is now four unbeaten for the Lillywhites whose eight points from these matches means they are just outside the play-off spots in tenth place. This is one of four in their next eight which come against teams in the bottom eight. Away from Deepdale, it has been a mixed bag recently with two victories, two draws and two defeats from their last six. Six of their last seven on the road have seen both teams find the back of the net. Two of their last three and nine of their last 12 have gone over 2.5 goals with four of these going over 3.5. Preston have managed just two first-half goals in their last eight fixtures with both these coming in the five minutes before the interval.

Preston North End Team News

Sean Maguire (hamstring) is a long-term absentee while Gregory Cunningham and Tommy Spurr (both knee issues) are expected to miss out. Josh Earl is out after a knee operation.
