Burton Albion vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Easter Monday (15:00) fixture features two sides in need of Championship points at opposite ends of the table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Burton are back to the bottom following Sunderland winning on Friday and them going down to a 3-1 defeat to Cardiff.  A 21st minute Darren Bent equalizer had given them hope but the Bluebirds had too much class for them.

Middlesbrough will also be aiming to bounce back from defeat as they suffered a 2-1 home loss to Wolves.  They were two down after 37 minutes but given they played ten men from the 56th minute and nine from the 71st they would have been disappointed to only net once with Patrick Bamford.

The reverse fixture came early in the season in mid-August that the Teesiders won 2-0 thanks to a Britt Assombalonga brace.  It was only the third occasion that the sides have met with one win each prior to that meeting.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The bookmakers are not giving much away here making Middlesbrough the short-priced favourites and while I could not put anyone off backing them I would prefer to find some better value in other markets.

Wolves and Cardiff both hit three past Burton while Sheffield United and Brentford netted twice and Boro looking capable of doing similar here so take them to go over 1.5 goals especially as they have Patrick Bamford in form.

Burton home goals tend to follow a pattern in which they keep things tight early and then get undone in the second-half so backing the Teesiders to get most of their goals in the second 45 minutes also makes sense.

Boro to score over 1.5 goals

Second-half to be highest scoring Boro 45 minutes

Burton Albion saw over 1.5 goals in 10 out of their last 10 games played

Burton Albion saw over 1.5 goals in 4 out of their last 4 games played against Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have conceeded only 4 goals in their last 4 games against Burton Albion

Burton Albion Preview

With just seven games to go the Brewers are bottom of the table though they still have four fixtures against bottom seven sides to go.  They must find some form though having taken just one point from their last six.

At the Pirelli Stadium, they have taken a league low home points of just ten and they have won at their own ground since September 16th.  They have failed to net in any of their last four in front of their own fans.

Five of the last seven goals netted in Burton league games have come in the second 45 minutes.  No side have been level going into the break more time than Albion with 21 ties at the interval.

Burton Albion Team News

Lucas Akins (hamstring) is a doubt while Willie Miller (knee) is a long-term absentee for the Brewers.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders saw their six-game unbeaten run come to an end last time though they still have lost just three of their last 12.  They are in sixth place but one of six sides separated by just two points in the race for two play-off positions.

Away from the Riverside, they are unbeaten in their last three and have lost just two of their last eight.  Boro have netted 28 goals on the road this season which is the third best away attacking record in the division.

Patrick Bamford has bagged nine goals in his last seven while Adama Traore has two in his last three appearances.  Around 58% of the Middlesbrough league goals this season have come in the second-half.

Middlesbrough Team News

Fabio (thigh) is a doubt while Rudy Gestede (broken ankle) is unlikely to play again this season
