Burton Albion vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

Burton Albion v Cardiff City Predictions & Betting Tips

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who struggled last season with both involved in the relegation mix. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Bookmakers have Burton down for another season of struggle against relegation as they have one of the lowest budgets in the division. Cardiff are expected to be pushing on for a top-half finish according to bookmakers this season. It was the home side who came out on top in these games last season with Cardiff winning 1-0 at their ground while Burton won 2-0 at the Pirelli Stadium. The goalscorers on that day were Jackson Irvine and Lucas Akins while Rhys Healey gave the Bluebirds victory in their home game.

Betting Tips & Predictions

Cardiff are the favourites in the match market and I can not be rushing to be backing them at such short prices so instead will recommend looking elsewhere for the bets. Junior Hoilett caught the eye in a Cardiff pre-season friendly win over Livingston recently and with Lee Tomlin pulling the strikes the pacy winger could be great value in the goalscorer markets. Hope Akpan scored against Leicester in pre-season and goes off far too big here as he looks to have more licence to get forward for Burton than he was allowed at Blackburn.

Burton Albion Preview

Nigel Clough deserves praise for turning his back on his beloved Nottingham Forest to keep Burton up last season after they finished 20th. This season they will probably be content to survive once more as they operate on a lower budget than most teams in the division. Liam Boyce who got among the goals in the SPL last season is their big signing this summer while Matty Lund from Rochdale in League One is a good under-the-radar signing from the Brewers. If they wish to stay up they need to improve on the amount of goals they scored last season which was one of the lowest in the division. 27 of the 46 Albion played last season produced a total of exactly two or three goals and they averaged 2.43 goals per fixture.

Cardiff City Preview

If you take into account the results from the time Neil Warnock took over as manager then Cardiff were ninth last season. In actual reality they finished 11th which is still an impressive return for a side fighting relegation. The Bluebirds have invested well this summer to make them interesting outsiders for a top-six finish with Lee Tomlin and Danny Ward offering them more going forward combined with the defensive organization that a Neil Warnock side has. City are a tough side to work out on the over/under goals market with an average of 2.63 per fixture that places them right in the middle of the mix. Do note though that seven of their last 11 went under 2.5 and this might be more reflective of how they play under Warnock this season.

Callum Paterson (knee) and Rhys Healey (cruciate ligament) are both unlikely to feature.
