Burton Albion vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) will have an impact on both ends of the Championship as relegation threatened Burton host play-off chasing Bristol City. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Burton made it back-to-back home defeats as they went down 2-0 at home to Brentford on Tuesday night. The game was level until the hour mark until a Kyle McFadzean goal put the Bees ahead and then they wrapped up the points in the 80th minute. Bristol City saw their play-off hopes take a knock on Tuesday night as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Preston. Famara Diedhiou had put them level in the 67th minute but two minutes later they were behind again and this was how the match finished with misery compounded when Aden Flint was dismissed at the end. The reverse fixture came in mid-October and it was the second successive meeting between the sides to end goalless. The Robins dominated proceedings seeing more of the ball and creating more chances but could not break Albion down.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The appalling home form of Burton means that Bristol City are strong favourites to win the game. Some people might be interested in the Robins at these prices but given they are without a victory in seven on their travels that is not a price that appeals to me. The Brewers to be level at half-time has happened in 20 of their 35 this season and 11 of 18 when just looking at home and it did the business in midweek against Brentford. This game could follow a similar pattern with it being tight at half-time and opening up in the second 45 minutes. Take the game to be level at half-time and the second half to be the highest scoring.

Burton Albion Preview

It is now just one victory in their last ten for the Brewers which means they sit second from bottom three behind Barnsley who are in 21st. They have a nasty run of fixtures with each of their next five against sides in the top nine. At the Pirelli Stadium, they have struggled failing to win any of their last 14 in the Championship losing 12 of these. It is now three straight without a goal at their own ground and just three from their last six. Burton matches tend to be low-scoring encounters with their last five producing just six in total with the Brewers netting just two of these. Along with Millwall they hold the record for most games being level at half-time with 20 of their 35 having done so and 11 of 18 when just looking at home ties.

Burton Albion Team News

Damien McCrory (unknown), Hope Akpan (ankle), John Brayford and Ben Turner (both calf) are doubts while Willie Miller (knee) is a long-term absentee for the Brewers.

Bristol City Preview

It is now just one victory in their last seven league games and two in their last 12 for the Robins who seem to be running out of gas. They do though have a nice run to the end of the season with just two of their ten remaining fixtures against a side in the current top ten. Away from Ashton Gate, they are without a victory in seven losing three of their last four and each of their last two. They have lost just two times this season to bottom ten side with these defeats coming against Birmingham and Bolton. Around 55% of the goals Bristol City have scored this season have come in the second-half with 25% in the final 15 minutes. Bobby Reid has five in the last five while Famara Diedhiou has five in the last eight.

Bristol City Team News

Aden Flint will miss the game through suspension. Nathan Baker, Milan Djuric (both groin) and Jens Hegeler (knee) are doubts while Matty Taylor (hernia) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are long-term absentees
