Burton Albion vs Blackburn Rovers Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Friday evening (19:45) game will have implications at the bottom of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

These two teams met for the first time ever in the league back on August 20th at Ewood Park with the game finishing in a score draw. Blackburn took the lead through Craig Conway only for Burton to fight back through Jackson Irvine. Sam Gallagher gave Rovers the lead again in the second half, but Albion rescued a point through Tom Naylor two minutes from time.

Burton got a useful point last time out as they drew 0-0 with Derby at the IPro Stadium in a game in which they created little, but managed to hold firm against the Rams.

Rovers were unsuccessful in the FA Cup going down 2-1 to Man United in a game that Danny Graham had given them a lead in. The Lancashire side lost 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday last time out in the league with a Sam Hutchinson (own goal) their only strike. This week also saw the sacking of manager Owen Coyle with Tony Mowbray taking over the team.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is always tough to predict against a side who have just lost their manager, but the prices suggest Burton are worth an interest.  They have beaten Norwich and Wolves at their own ground in recent weeks while Rovers have failed to win any of eight on the road to sides in the bottom 13, losing six of these.

The last four Burton victories have come by one goal while Blackburn have kept it down to one goal in eight of their last nine defeats so take the winning margin to be the single strike.

Burton Preview

Two wins and a draw from their last four games has given Burton some breathing space at the bottom of the table, some but not a lot. They sit five points above Wigan in 22nd going into this game.

At their own ground, it is back-to-back victories for Albion, and they have the 16th best-rated home form in the division. They tend to do well against teams in the bottom 14 at home with five wins, one draw and just two defeats from eight matches so far this season.

The last two Burton home fixtures have ended 2-1, and this was also the result at home to bottom of the table Rotherham. The Brewers are not a great one for betting overs with ten of 16 at their own ground going under 2.5 goals. Michael Kightly is a player in scoring form having grabbed three in his last three, and he is hoping to be available here.

Blackburn Preview

A run of just two victories from their last 13 league games means that Owen Coyle was shown the door this week by the Blackburn board. Rovers have been in the relegation zone all season and going into this game sat 23rd though had a couple of games in hand.

On the road, it has been a poor season for the Lancashire team with just two wins all season though these results did come at Newcastle and Derby. They have taken just two points from their six away matches against sides in the bottom ten.

Shipping goals has been a problem for Rovers all season and they have just the 22nd best-ranked defence in the division conceding 49 times. Both teams to score is a feature of their ties with 12 of the last 16 seeing both find the back of the net. Four of their last five fixtures in all competitions has seen one or more goal in the last 15 minutes.

Burton Team News

Michael Kightly missed the midweek game with a thigh injury and Nigel Clough will be keen for the on-loan player to return after his recent scoring run.  John Brayford is available after a knee injury while Kyle McFadzean (toe) and Damien McCrory (hamstring) are both set to miss out once more.

Blackburn Team News

Elliott Bennett and Hope Akpan will miss the game through suspension. Elliott Ward (broken ankle) is listed day-to-day while Tommy Hoban (dislocated shoulder) is close to a return. Adam Henley (hamstring), Corry Evans (groin) and Sam Gallagher (knee) are doubts.
