Burton Albion vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Burton Albion v Birmingham City Betting Tips and Predictions

This Friday evening Championship game (19:45) is live on Sky Sports and comes from the Pirelli Stadium. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Burton are the only side in the Championship without a point yet and they went down 2-0 at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night. They were undone by a Britt Assombalonga brace and their mood was not helped when Hope Akpan was dismissed. Birmingham were held to a goalless draw last time at home to Burton and as we highlighted in the preview the loss of Che Adams was a blow for them and they will hope new signing Isaac Vassell can make the step up from League Two. The Brewers won both meetings between the pair last season 2-0. Lloyd Dyer netted in both games last season and he will hope that is a good omen for this fixture.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Birmingham will be a popular bet given the poor start Burton have made and while they are the most likely winners I would not want to take such a short price on a side without a natural goalscorer in the absence of Che Adams. Goals are going to be tough to come by with no natural goalscorer so I think value can be found at a bigger price. Matty Palmer for Burton is a player who we talk about later in the preview but likes a shot from distance. He looks worth a first goalscorer play with unlimited places each-way. Neither team are blessed with attacking talent and this is could be a closely fought battle so take a small interest on the half-time correct score being 0-0

Burton Albion Preview

Three games and three defeats for Burton and Nigel Clough knows that this could be a long tough season for them. They sit bottom of the table and are the only side yet to have gained a point in the Championship. At home, both teams have found the back of the net in five of their last six though this did not occur against Cardiff in their only home tie this season. The Brewers have shipped five of their last seven home goals in the second 45 minutes. The Midlands outfit have created just four goalscoring chances this season while all seven goals they have conceded this season have come in open-play. Matthew Palmer was their shining light in the last game with three shots and a decent looking effort from distance and he could be a player to watch in the scorer markets in the next few weeks.

Burton Albion Team News

Ben Turner and Hope Akpan are suspended while Liam Boyce is out for the season.

Birmingham City Preview

It has been a mixed start to the season for Birmingham who have picked up one win, a draw and one defeat from their league matches. This has them in the middle though it is a very early form of the Championship table. On the road, it is just one win from the last seven in the league and two in the last 15. This season they have lost their one encounter to Ipswich 1-0 which means they have netted just five in their last seven away trips. The Midlands side need to improve their conversion rate which is just at 4% for the current league campaign. Cheikh N’Doye has an average of 3.3 shots per game while David Cotterill has two per fixture from his two appearances.

Birmingham City Team News

Che Adams (hamstring) and Cheick Keita (groin) are expected to miss a few weeks while David Davis (virus) is day-to-day.
