Burton Albion vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in the bottom six of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Burton suffered a disappointing home defeat last time out as they went down 2-1 against Ipswich. Albion had taken the lead through Ben Turner but conceded an equalizer ten minutes later and a heartbreaking 89th minute goal cost them a point that their performance had deserved. Barnsley picked up a useful point on their travels last time out as they grabbed a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. A Harvey Barnes goal enabled the Tykes to claim a share of local pride and the points. Both meetings last season ended in draws with the one at the Pirelli Stadium finishing 0-0 and the game at Oakwell ending 1-1. In their five competitive meetings, so far Albion have not come won a single game.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This will be a game that both teams think they can win and although the visitors are the most likely winners a record of just three wins from their last 15 Championship games means I cannot be backing them at the prices. A better bet could be taking the game to be goalless at half-time which would have paid in each of the last three Burton games. The Brewers have conceded no goals in the first 45 minutes of their last three but then four times in the next 45 minutes. It makes sense then to have a play on the second-half to be the highest scoring for the Tykes.

Burton Albion Preview

The Brewers are on a poor run of form that has seen them take just one point from their last five fixtures. Lack of goals is an issue with that strike against Ipswich putting to an end a run of five without netting. At the Pirelli Stadium, they have lost each of their last three games while netting once and conceding ten times. Both teams netted in that game with the Tractor Boys and that makes it four of the last six in front of their own fans where this has happened. Their last three matches have been level at half-time and in two of these three Burton have conceded twice in the second-half. No Burton player has managed to net on more occasion in the Championship this season.

Barnsley Preview

A draw at the weekend was their third in their last five and means the Tykes have taken six points from these fixtures. This marks the first of two games in a row they have against teams in the bottom six. Away from Oakwell, each of their last four has seen both teams find the back of the net and five of six for the season. They have taken five points from the six they have played on their travels. Barnsley are reasonably strong starters and nine of the 16 they have scored this season have come in the opening 45 minutes. Not one of their games has ended goalless this campaign while eight of 13 have gone over 2.5 goals.
